I had my operation on 20th Feb, and I am currently 12 days post-op. I had to be at the hospital 1 day early, as there were 1 or 2 more tests that needed to be done. My surgeon was Mr Gee. He is actually a lecturer in one of the universities here, however he is also a specialist in bariatric operation. He is totally awesome! Apparently my operation went for quite some time... Longer that what my sister expected it to be anyways.

I did not have any issues with vomiting or extreme abnominal pain after the op. I only had some gassy feeling in my lower bowels. When my specialist came to see me the next afternoon once I was out of the recovery place and in the ward, he said he saw something that he wasn't happy about. My small intestines didn't seem to have enough blood flowing through it, and it concerns him greatly. He had stitched me up the best that he could, but I needed to be in the hospital for at least a week. He was so concerned that he did not let me out of bed for the next 5 days. The physio therapist came and went, ,and all asked why I was still in bed. I asked them back the same thing. Truth is I was looking forward to get out of the damn bed and move around!

Once the urine tube was out, I was able to get a proper shower and also walked around a bit. I still had my drain from my abdomen sticking out at this point -_-. Had to wait for my appointment for the Barium Swallow which was scheduled for the 27th Feb. The specialist was concernend that I'd have a leak somewhere... Barium swallow was worse than the actual surgery! My God... I never want to ever have to go through it again. Such an aweful aweful taste.. blearghhhhh!

So from after my surgery to the point of the Barium Swallow, I was only allowed plain Water. After which, I was allowed some nutritious drinks (Protein + Whey) before they discharged me on 1st March.

I lost 10 kilograms (22 Pounds) in the first 9 days in the hospital, and today I weighed myself again and I lost another 1 kg ^_^

So far so good! Can't wait to start on real food! Will update more after my next appointment with my specialist!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
