I can't tell what I'm feeling :-/

Recommended Posts

I can't tell when I'm hungry, can't tell when I'm full....can't tell which feelings are nausea and which are gas...keep getting pressure in my chest, like in my esophagus. Don't know if it's gas or my body saying I took too big of a sip. How to I distinguish these feelings?

Well, any pain in chest associated with eating and drinking is usually a result as too big of drink/bite. If you continuously have that pain in chest with eating and food is not going down you would need to call your surgeon as this could be a stricture which is a common complication. Papya enzyme is also something you should have on hand if you feel like something is stuck as it will break it down.

Initially, you don't have much feeling at all. I knew when i was nauseated and had Zofran for that another must if nausea is common for you. Once you are onto solid food eat slow and chew, chew, chew. I still like to semi measure stuff out and always try not to eat everything. I am a little weird about that. I only eat when I am hungry which is 2-3 times a day. I make sure i drink a Protein drink which took me forever to find ones I liked.

How far out are you?? what stage of eating are you in??

Just had surgery Wednesday so still on full liquids. Haven't found a Protein Drink I can take yet, but I'm doing ok with Water and Soups, SF pudding and Jello, etc.

My first 13 to 14 days I had no hunger really. I just measure 1/4 of whatever and ate it a few times a day. I had a lot of problems with Protein drinks. The ones I could drink prior to surgery made me nauseous after. I don't seem to have a milk intolerance but don't care for milky Protein Drinks. I found powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has two I like a chicken soup/broth 100 cal 21 g Protein. and strawberry sorbet then mix with crystal light lemonade. I also like nectar syntrex ones. Fuzzy navel, strawberry kiwi and tropical mango just mix with Water. i ordered from Vitalady and she has samples so you don't have to buy a big jug and the Unjury you can order from unjury.com and they also have samples..

Don't worry once you start getting more solid foods you will be able to tell when you are full. Good Luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
