how long after the surgery does it take Weightloss?

Recommended Posts

Don't worry about the scale bc right now you will stop Water weight and inches off , no one can tell you precisely how long bc everyone is different . I lost 22 lbs while at the hospital post op, I had gb 1-21-13 weighed 368 and now I'm 329 and a month and 11 days post op .... Just focus on getting better and the weight will drop off on its own ..... You can do it stay positive and keep moving around so gas pain and the incision site will take time to heal so just take one step at a time :)

You might have gained weight with all the IV fluids pumped into you. Everyone is different but you should start noticing weight loss soon. Make sure to measure yourself and also see how your clothes are fitting.

Do you all find yourself wanting to challenge food and see if you can eat it since your surgery?my kids offered a pizza and wings and i pinched the pizza and i know i should've and now not only is my gas worse but i feel bad for it,wondering if my weight problem is more mental than physical and if that's the case my surgery was a waste of time and money.

It is hard for me because it's a combination of both however all of us can relate to missing our dear bff Food... It was there when we were lonely, sad, bored, tired, hurt etc....remember this is a tool not a solution to the weight issue... I have pcos and I have been tempted but I won't try it because when I made the decision to take a risk in having the surgery I made myself a promise to learn to cope or find other things to do to avoid thinking about food....obesity isn't just because you ate too much or not enough and binges at times , it is a self control issues among other health complications that make it hard to do....but try to stick to your diet that your nutritionist has given you bc the last thing you want is to have something that doesn't agree with you kill you, that's what is killing us now food ,well at least unhealthy food that is but just keep looking forward to the future, I'm post op 1 month and 11 days , I made myself a promise on Jan 21, 2013 the day of my surgery was that enough was enough I want to be able to walk a block without asthma, have kids, enjoy life, ride a roller coaster and have fun without thinking "can I fit in that chair"? Will I break it or avoid fun atmospheres because of ny size .....I wish u the best when did you have surgery?

Don't think negative , I have the same thoughts sometimes but your not the only one , there is a few of us on here sweetie, stay positive...... It will pay off , my friends have had this done 10+ years and they said your body and mind will have ups and downs because your hormones are changing .......

You don't want to pop the stitches holding your new pouch in place. It will be a disaster. Stick to liquids. You can do this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
