60g protein in 12 oz!

Recommended Posts

I have been using the GNC Wheybolic Protein and it has 60 g of protein (3 scoops not thick) in 12 oz of Water. Great way to get all protein in one drink and the taste is tolerable. Do no recommend the plain whey as it has aftertaste and does not mix as well. Comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and Cookies and cream. So far I've only had chocolate.

I have read that we don't digest much more then 30 or so g at one time.. I found this when reading...

Protein itself is not absorbed by your body. Instead, Protein is converted to amino acids during the digestion process, which are then absorbed into your bloodstream, where they eventually reach your muscles, organs and other tissues. Different sources of Protein are absorbed at varying rates. For instance, one of the fastest-absorbing protein sources is whey. According to researcher Helen Kollia, whey protein is absorbed at a rate of 8 g to 10 g per hour, so it would take about three hours to absorb a 30 g whey Protein shake. However, she notes that whey protein passes through the intestinal tract in about 1.5 hours, so in this case, 15 g of whey at once is the ideal amount to consume for maximum absorption. Consuming more than this amount in one sitting would simply get excreted from the body.

Couldn't you drink 1/2 the shake and the other half later?

I would love to be able to drink 6 ounces in the morning and then 6 ounces in the afternoon and know my protein was done for the day.

I have PCOS too for 6 years more mild- yes this works.. I am doing great. almost five weeks out and have lost 30 pounds. Don't get stuck on a number. Work the program like it was designed per your surgeon. Remember to measure yourself also as sometimes we dont see the scale move but we are losing inches..

I also use this Protein. I have been splitting it up during the day. I either have 2 or three shakes a day. I've only had the vanilla. It tastes like cake batter. I add fruit to it In the morning and use the no surfer silk milk it's the best tasting protein that I have tried.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
