Very hard decision. None of my family or friends are with me on this. I feel the gastric bypass is the way to go but i will discuss that more with the doc when i go see him. I will let you all know when i am scheduled for the operation. I know i will want to know how you all did on your pre op diet..

Some of my family and friends tried to discourage me from having it done. But I can say without a doubt that I made the decision. ME! Once that was done I knew what I wanted. So you need to decide. Your friends and family need to trust your decision. My mom told me that it just didn't seem natural...I said mom...neither is a hysterectomy but people do it all the time. Trust your inner voice and go with it. Be proud of your choice and stay positive. This is your journey not any one else's. My surgery date is April 18th!!! I can't wait. Good luck to you! We got this! ;)

Good luck to you. I have several family members as well that don't approve. But you know what I said, "OH WELL, it's time to do me"!!

We can all do this together. We know our bodies better than anyone one and we know that this is best decision for us.

I had a similar situation. When I first mentioned it and was on the fence everyone told me not to do it. For one reason or another. Then once I told them I made my decision I started getting a little more support. My husband was 100% against it in the beginning, and once I say down with him, told him why I needed it, showed him the stats on morbid obesity, he is now one of my biggest cheerleaders. Congrats on your decision. I'm sure they will come around eventually!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
