I am 5 days post op rny and I am getting in 8 oz of Protein Shake a day (takes me all day). And 8 oz of Water. Can't muster anything else. Is this normal? I tried 1.5 oz of maltomeal yesterday and it sat on my stomach like a bolder. I constantly have like a back/chest pain when drinking but I have not thrown up and no fever. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thsnks

You need to do 1 oz per 10 min... you will dehydrate and need hospitalization at that rate that you are doing.

I'm only about a month out but at 5 days post op I was consuming the same amount. Don't worry because as time goes on you'll be able to get more in. Try no sugar added apple juice mixed with Water. Crystal light and mio works for me too Jello and pudding were great for me as well. Also It may seem strange but I drink more Water if it's in a glass or cup.

I have been doing ok with liquids, but one thing that has helped me is crushed ice. My fridge makes it, but it helps like having the chips in the hospital did. If your fridge doesn't crush ice you can buy bags of it from Sonic ( the restaurant if there is one in your city) sometimes the Water just sits there but letting the ice melt gets less at one time. I over did it on the Protein Shake today and drank too fast, but any liquids (approved ones for your doctor) will help keep you hydrated.

I've been hitting sonic on my way to work for a large ice and pouring it over my Syntrax I sip all day. Love me some sonic ice!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
