So I ordered a sample pack of Chike! Protein Powder and it came today. Me and my mom did a taste test, and OMG, freaking YUM. Have any of you tried it? It's a little thick, but it has great taste (a little sweeter than most), and isn't grainy at all.

Thanks for posting. I am going to order the sample pack too. I've read that a lot of people experience changes in their tastebuds after surgery, so I am thinking that it will be wise to just have smaller quantities of different brands/flavors for post-op until I decide which ones taste good. I still have at least 5 months before a possible surgery date due to the insurance requirements, but I figure that gives me time to start collecting a variety. :) Glad you found something yummy!

I hear that too. How does that even work? Why would our taste buds change? Could it just be that since we will feel so full all the time, nothing we eat seems appealing?

I freaking LOVE Chike!! I mix up the vanilla every day with cold Water in a Blender Bottle. Blends up smooth. 2 scoops is 28 gms of Protein, individual package is a little less. I couldn't make my 80 gm daily goal without this stuff. Only wish it was sold in stores & in a bigger tub.

You can buy samples of different Protein powders at Nashua Nutrition for $1.95 each. I ruled out several that way, still have more to try though. Chike is my fav. Tastes do change (I'm 3months out), not sure why. I loved cottage cheese & buttermilk before surgery, can't go near them now, they don't taste the same. Makes me sad because those are good Protein sources.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
