Band removed and bypass sane day?

Recommended Posts

My band to RNY done all at once. They emptied the band before surgery. Done 2/20/13. So glad I did it.

I had the band in 2006 and a revision in 2012 and am now having the band removed and bypass done on April 16th and Im freaking out now seeing that some end up having to wait to have bypass and not have it done all at once

My band prolapsed and I just had so much damage it wasn't possible to do it all at once safely....I seem to be the exception though so you'll probably be fine and get it all done together....but even if you don't, it's not the end of the world :). Good luck!!!

I'm good!!! I'll be 5 weeks post op on Monday and really this week is the first week I've started to feel like myself. I had very little issue with pain but the nausea kicked my butt!!! Eventually I figured out that nauseated = hungry so now if I start to get a little queasy I get something to eat, since that discovery it's been pretty smooth sailing. I lost 14 lbs pre-op and I'm at 15 post-op, I've been a steady and consistent 3 lbs a week. Would love to be one of those that loses a pound a day but it doesn't appear that's going to happen! But that's okay!!! If I can stay steady at 2-3 lbs a week and not be starving all the time then it's totally worth it. Getting that stupid band out made such a huge difference in my quality of life, it's amazing how much better I felt once that beast was gone :)

My doc said he'd open me up and try, but if there's too much scar tissue or inflammation he'll do a vertical sleeve instead. Or I could wait 6 mos, but it would cost me double because it's 2 surgeries then (I'm self pay...).

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I REALLY want the RNY!

I mourned for 2weeks and gained 25 pounds in the 6 months between....still working to get that off! But I needed to do this for me! (Plus the holidays were a blast :D got to eat all the yummy terrible stuff one last time!!!). Honestly though, I felt SO much better just having that stupid band out of me....after I got over my 2 weeks of mourning I felt the bet I had in 3 years and just decided to enjoy myself til my 6 months was up....couldn't change what had happened so might as well moveon!

So glad to hear that--I can't wait to get mine out!!!

Day 6 post op. 228 lbs on surgery day and 218lbs this morning. My Fluid intake hasn't been difficult. I can get down 16 oz of crystal light in 30-45 min as long as its not cold. My sister who is 1 year out from RNY says I can take in more than she could at this stage. Getting the shakes down ok. Can do 11 oz in less than an hour, again as long as its not cold. I mix all liquids 50% out of the refrigerator with 50% room temperature. I'd like to hear about everyone's first mushy food. Was it eggs or yogurt or something else? Give me some suggestions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
