Hello there :-) I'm down 30 pounds between pre op and 1 week post op and I feel like I don't see a 30 pound difference in myself... I have a fear that I will lose the weight and never feel skinnier than I am now... Anyone else have this problem??

I've heard a lot of people say on here that they can't tell the difference. I think that with all the dieting I've done over the years I've always noticed it in my clothes but never through my image. Why don't you do the side by side comparison from before surgery to your current post op I'm sure you'll see it and it's true that we get use to how we envision ourselves so I think it's natural that others will take notice before we do. I'm proud of both of you! Another you can try is to put on a pair of pants, a dress or a shirt that didn't fit before surgery and compare how it fits now. I'm sure I'll probably go through the same thing when I have my revision since that's how it was for me when I first got the lap band in 2007.

I'm down almos 100lbs- size 22 to like a 10ish, and honestly, I feel like I'm still 252lbs and a size 22. I mean, my change happened really fast- 6 months, but every day it's a shock when I look in the mirror. My psychologist actually suggested to me (and I think it could have been helpful if I did it along the way) to set aside a few minutes each day to look in a full-length mirror and really notice the differences. It sounds lame, but I found it helpful! Good luck!

I think that this is why it takes so many different steps in pre-op. They try and make sure that when we are deciding to have surgery that we are fully aware that it is just a tool to help loose weight. Though the weight comes off it doesn't get to the core of why and how we got to the point we were at when we made the decision to have surgery. This is why they tell us to go to support group meetings and if necessary find a therapist. I know that I am working on it. I just decided that I was going to leave the scale and the numbers on the scale to the doc for now and work on appreciating the changes through how clothes fit and the way my body feels.

I like the suggestion that Abby gave. It is something that I had done a long time ago and helped. I stopped doing it and think that it is something I am going to start doing again.... Thanks for the reminder!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
