PCP Letter of Necessity

Recommended Posts

I'm scared. I just got the letter from the doc. In the office the letter sounds great. Well I just re-read it 50 times and now it doesn't seem strong enough. I'm so nervous and have not even submitted to the insurance co yet. I'm waiting for the bariatric docs office opinion. With each case we should get a box of clairol, I swear I'm gonna have a head full of grey hair.

Do u guys think this letter is a deal breaker?????

My surgeons office did all the letter getting and approving for me. Do they usually have people do this themselves?

Surely it's fine. We read these things as if we are fighting for us (since we ARE). Tge drs office just puts what's necessary for the insurance companies to approve. The insurance company is just looking for the words, not the best, most convincing speech. Good luck!!

My surgeon office sent me with the letter to have my pcp copy but he has to full in the blanks such as my name his name and the reasons like high blood pressure, anxiety and depression, pcos and asthma. I can actually post the letter my surgeon gave me for my doc to copy if you want but i'm sure everything will be fine for you doctors usually know what they are doing.

Thanks guys! I am just worried about going back and asking the doc to modify the letter. The more I read it I think I sound too healthy. Just word smithing. My doc did give me a template for us to follow. This is the last thing I need and it's stressing me out.

I'm not willing to take a chance and risk a denial... :(

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
