Just got my date today, April 22!! Woot woot! It's happening so fast. I have all my post op diet appointments and lab work next week. Anyone have any suggestions what I should buy or have on hand for the hospital and my first few weeks home??

things you need for the hospital:

toothbrush, paste , floss

pillow to hold tummy on ride home

comfy, loose clothes for the ride home

slip on shoes

phone and charger

chapstick

books, magazines, iPad

deodorant and powder

Stuff I have on hand for my first two weeks post -op at home are:

sugar free Jello

sugar free popsicles

broths (chicken, beef, veggie)

Many different flavors of Crystal light and Sugar Free Hawaiian punch

Clear Protein drinks--Isopure, Unjury unflavored, Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel and Twisted cherry.< /p>

Extra strength Gas-X

Celebrate Bariatric Vitamins (multivit, Calcium, B12, Iron)

Second Stage or "Full liquids" weeks 2-4

strained Soups (cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of celery, Tomato bisque)

Milk based Protein Shake mixes like Syntrax Matrix strawberry Cream and EAS vanilla

Skim milk or soy milk

Hope this helps! I'm sure you will get more info at your pre-op appointments. Every doc has different guidelines as far as what they want you to eat when.

Well I finally made it home. It's so nice to be in my own space. Catheter came out today, which wasn't too bad. I couldn't feel the drain tube coming out at all either--I was surprised. I walked a whole bunch today at the hospital to fend off boredom. The soreness in my tummy is slowly going away. I have 5 incision sites as well as the one from the JP drain. very little bruising noted. I did take one dose of liquid Lortab when I got home, but I don't feel like I need to take another one yet.

Unfortunately I did gain about 8 pounds in the hospital, I guess from the IV fluids. Hopefully that will go away quickly.

Woohoo' date=' I had my surgery yesterday morning (April 8 @ 7:30am). Surgery went very well no complications at all, they had me up and walking by 7pm no Water allowed yet except for these lollipop looking sponge things that I could suck a bit of water out of. I couldn't sleep too well the first night not because I was just in a hospital or anything, I kept falling asleep and when I'd wake it felt like a few hours but it would only be like 40 mins, it drove me crazy then around midnight I had a little chest pain scare but the doctor prescribed some other meds and upped my pain killers and I was finally able to sleep for a few hours. Other than that I'm doing great up walking got my water finally and looking forward to going home and start this new life.....[/quote']

So happy for you! Now you are on the losers bench!!! ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
