April Dates

Recommended Posts

I'm waiting for the scheduler to contact me after she gets approval from insurance. I've already done 3 mos weight maintenance' date=' psych eval, EKG, and chest X-ray. I don't know yet if I have to have an EGD. I hope I know soon-this incessant waiting is making me looney tunes.[/quote']

That waiting would be hard for me too. We are lucky that our office is so efficient. I started the 6 month supervised diet 4 months before the consult. Our office only requires one nutrition class, psych consult, PCP clearance with EKG, and then pre-op testing. The 6 months of weigh ins was for the insurance requirement. I think our doc has it figured out....he has two cities he works out of and has done over 5000 surgeries. Hang in there! It will come up fast!

Congrats! One more step towards changing your life!

Thanks so much. The doc was very nice but it felt terrible to go over all my past failures at weight loss. Had to be honest though.

Went to my mandatory support group tonight and it was very interesting. Heard some great success stories, as well as some stories of people who are 3 years out and are still struggling. Goes to show that this will be a LIFE LONG journey, not one that is "fixed" by having RNY. Was a very positive evening and am now more excited than ever!

Yes...definitely a tool, not a cure. I look at it as if the RNY gives us a chance to get down to "normal" and then it is up to us to do the work to keep it that way. Just the way I look at it...I'm still pre op and no expert.

It is definitely a tool, and a lifestyle change too. I have many friends and family that have had different weight loss surgeries and there are a few that have gained some or most of their weight back. My mom had her DS over 17 years ago and has managed to maintain but she knows her limits. Other family members have actually talked about having another surgery because they have gained back their weight but all of them went back to their old habits once they were able to eat normally again. This is our chance to make a change - a permanent change. I want to set a good, healthy example for my kids and I don't want to take all these medications everyday. I know it will be hard but nothing worth fighting for ever is.

Stay positive but be real with yourself. :)

I have been trying different Protein shakes--my favorite so far is Syntrax Matrix strawberry Cream. I also really like Click vanilla Latte coffee/protein drink for Breakfast. Syntrax nectar is a good non-creamy Protein drink-- I like green apple and cherry.

I'm stocked up on broths-- chicken' date=' veggie, beef, miso. Different creamed soups--cream of mushroom, celery, and chicken are good, but would need to be strained for liquid phase.

sugar free Jello and Popsicles.[/quote']

I've stocked up on the Protein shakes, but haven't tried any yet. Since I read so many posts about everything tasting different after surgery I figured I would just try them after. I did however get a large container of unflavored protein. Other than that I will have a ton of different ones to try! :) Vitalady.com you can order samples.< /p>

Is it too early to start an April thread? I didn't see one yet.

I'm scheduled for April 22. I still have to finish PCP clearance and psych then insurance approval but don't anticipate any problems. Once I started my appointments the excitement and anxiety kicked in. I started 6 month supervised diet in August....this used to seem so far away and like a vague idea but its so real now. My anxiety is double as my husband's date is march 18 and I worry a lot more about him than myself. How are all the other April folks doing?

Hey Kat23: we are surgery sisters! Got my date today~April 22nd. So excited that it finally is coming and seems so real!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
