Wow, where do I start?

My name is Collene, I am 48 years old 5'4" and prior to my Optifast I weighed 304lbs. I waited 2 and a half years for this surgery!!! My original req got lost so needless to say i kinda thought this would never happen.

i did the optifast for 3 weeks and I lost 16lbs.

The first day of the optifast was a breeze but it got tougher, I was very hungry to say the least. I did it though with little cheating. I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't. They didn't even weigh me before my surgery, I was like are you kidding!!?? So I got a nurse to weigh me so at least I would know.

Surgery went well, the only issue was my blood pressure. They got it down though and everything went smoothly. I get transferred to my room, I had a private room of which I was surprised. Apparently all bariatric patients get a private room. I kinda had wished there was someone there to connect with, but it was all good. I am surprised how much I was left on my own. Anyways I managed and now I'm home.

I'm not hungry but I know I have to eat so I am!! I managed to get all my Vitamins in liquid form, I also got liquid whey Protein which has 42 grams in one shot. You can get it at the Vitamin Shoppe in Buffalo. It is an excellent source of protein.

Colleen,

I'm having my surgery done in Norman, Ok. It's a couple hours from where I live, but had to go with the doc the insurance recommended. I am on the preop liquid diet until Tuesday. I hope I do as well as you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
