Giving pics to surgeon's office....

Recommended Posts

My new surgeon's office wants me to send in a picture of myself with my application. Should I send in one that is bad on an average scale or actually look for one that really makes me look bad (worse than usual, anyway)?

Hehe, I'd find the worst one I could. Same as how I seriously considered carrying weights in my pockets since I had a BMI of 35.

I would take a front view and side view, full body, with your arms at your sides. The doctor might one day want to use you in some before and after shots. They might also want to submit them to the insurance. I would take current, clear photos, and keep a copy for yourself, a journal is such a great tool. I know that I have taken photos along the way, and I'm glad I have them. I know that my doctor has several before and after shots that they show at the seminar, and also have on the website.

My doctor took a picture of me too. They just like to keep in your file - when you come in on your post-op visits, then can compare how much you have changed.

I also took a before picture of myself for my own sake, front, side and back view. I also took my measurements.

You'll appreciate those "before" pics one day.

Well, I wound up not sending them a picture. I didn't have a recent one handy. The old surgeon's office took one though, so it will probably be sent with my file when I get it transferred.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
