SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted February 18, 2013 That's so hilarious! Well girl let her rip! Lol were you in much pain when you woke up from the surgery? And how hard was is to get out of bed the first time? I wish you the very best. OMG it got ugly....I told my doc my gut always wakes up slow....I had a GI virus right before surgery, I was cleaned out totally...there is nothing brewing in there at all...give me til tomorrow, I will produce tomorrow....he wouldn't hear of it. 2 freaking suppositories, 2 enemas, and one extremely pissed off patient later....he finally conceded defeat. And guess what??? The next morning the toots started and by afternoon I was rolling! I was SO mad....mom said my nurse is scarred for life now :/ I felt no pain when I woke up. Later, after I was in a room and on a morphine pump I kept the pain under control while I was awake but if I fell asleep for a couple hours and couldn't hit the pump the pain got a bit rough, not terrible though. And getting up wasn't really a huge deal, much easier than when I had my lap band 3 years ago....course I'm 50 lbs less so that's gotta help!!!!! When you get up, put the back of the bed up as far as it will go so you're not trying to pull yourself up using your abs. In the past 36 hours I've had 1 Tylenol and spent many hours under my heating pad....it just feels GOOD on the tummy . I was sleeping on my side the first night post op and flat on my tummy the night I went home, I guess day 3....... Sip sip sip and walk walk walk!!!!! My first follow up is Friday and I'm excited and nervous to weigh in. I had a dream last night that I are a bunch of potato chips. I swear I could TASTE them. I woke up feeling like I gained weight from my dream. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

But it would be AWESOME to throw in a couple huge weeks just for grins and giggles!!! So instead of graphic sex dreams, you're having graphic food dreams. Cecilia 201 Posted February 18, 2013 Today I started feeling NORMAL! Surgery was a week ago tomorrow, and all week I've had buyer's remorse. Felt crappy, emotional and just down. I am feeling better physically and mentally and can't wait to see what the future has in store! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk I was feeling pretty awful last night. Just wishing to GOD I could eat some real food, wondering what was so bad about being fat and uncomfortable all the time--at least I could drown my sorrows in a pint of Ben and Jerry's... Then I woke up this morning feeling much better too. Moral of the story: THINGS ALWAYS LOOK BETTER IN THE MORNING.

I since I'm off work for a month I've taken to sleeping until I wake up naturally. I've had some CRRRRAZY dreams! Many of them involve eating foods and having terrible remorse at having messed up my diet, LOL! Cecilia

kat77 63 Posted February 18, 2013 Hi everyone....sorry I have been MIA for a few days. My mom and dad went home from taking care of me and on Friday Thursday early am had a heart attack. I went up Friday with my husband and we were there till last night. Dad is OK, had a stent put in, his other bypass is the only thing that kept him alive, he had 98% blockage. I am feeling very guilty, I think the stress of my surgery aggravated his heart. Anyways I am home now, have a blown blood vessel in my eye so it looks like a zombie eye. And the 3.5 hour ride in the car each way didn't help my pain levels at all....but I am glad I was there for my dad and that he is OK. I have only lost 8 lbs since the 6th and am very discouraged since I have been sticking to my docs plan like glue....I am just plain down. Anyways, I am back and will try to keep up now here...I hope everyone is doing well Hugs, Kat
Cecilia 201 Posted February 18, 2013 By the way, I don't know if I ever introduced myself formally here. My name is Cecilia. I'm a registered nurse, working in a psychiatric hospital in the midwest. I may not be able to help with questions about the medical side of things, but I probably can help with the emotional side of things. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease a few months before the surgery, so there was a last minute push to get my thyroid killed off so that it would be safe to do surgery. The upshot was that the whole year that I was going through the program and waiting for a surgery date and whatnot, I was losing about a pound a week without trying. Well... I chalked it up to mindful eating, better food choices, smaller portions, etc, (what we had been taught in the 3-month class I had to take) but in fact it was just my metabolism chewing through the calories I consumed and then some. Toward the end, the dietitian told me in confidence, not to lose any more weight because if I did, the insurance company would no longer pay for the surgery. So it was an odd balancing act of trying to eat healthy, but not lose weight. Long story short, I get a lot of those You don't look big enough to need surgery! and Why get the surgery? You were losing weight just fine! (yah, thanks to my overactive thyroid). I didn't tell anyone at work before leaving, and only my mom (supportive), my brother and his wife (not approving but grudgingly supportive), and my best friend (believes I'm beautiful the way I am--which I am, but that's not the point--and that all I needed was a little more exercise.) It's nice to have this supportive forum. It got me through a rough night last night! Cecilia
Cecilia 201 Posted February 18, 2013 My sympathies, Kat! Just think--by getting healthier yourself, you'll be in a better position to take care of your dad in years ahead. Also, you'll be healthier when you reach the age he is now, and you won't give your kids the scare he gave you! ((hugs!)) Cecilia
