jerz 251 Posted February 10, 2013 I had open RNY on jan 28th and the drain was taken out the next day. This past tuesday I went to the er because I had (for lack of a better word) lumps under and on both sides of my stitches which contract, knot up and cause extreme pain by pressing up against the stitches. Er doc said (after cat scan) on the left side was Water and everything else was scar tissue and that scar tissue can hurt and I will have to just deal with it and it's gonna get worse b4 it gets better. So yesterday there was a piece of hanging scab which I stupidly pulled and out gushed a brownish liquid (no smell) which over the course of 10 mins escalated to bloody Fluid. Called mom who works in hospital to ask one of the docs for advice. Was told to apply pressure and if it did not stop within 30 mins to go to er. It stopped. My question is, do you think I should be concerned that theres more fluid inside of me? Should I be concerned that I'm only getting 22 oz of water and about 20/25 gm of Protein in? Is it normal to not have a bm daily? Does being on this diet change my body chemistry? (I feel like I smell different) Should I still be in pain 2 weeks postop? I'm sorry for such a long post. My post op follow up was Friday which was cancelled due to the storm and I haven't seen my surgeon yet to ask any of these questions.

I'm only 3w2d post op but for I can tell you that I'm only getting in about 32oz of water in and and about 20g of Protein in of that, I'm really struggling with the Protein shakes but now that I'm on soft foods hopefully I can fix that, I don't have a bm everyday I'll usually go every 2-3 days and I told my doc and he didn't find that to be a problem (but every doc is diff), when I got out the hospital I was so sure that I had a b.o not anything stinky just a different smell, now the pain I'm not quite sure bc everyone heal differently but if it's sever pain I would want to know what it is...I hope I helped
gra5u5 30 Posted February 10, 2013 I would definitely call your doctors office tomorrow and explain what is going on with the nurse. Just to be sure.

nurseroni1 0 Posted February 11, 2013 As a nurse I can tell u that the drain should have remained in place for at least 7 days post op to monitor bleeding. Most of the time the body will absorb the fluids in small amounts but large collections will pocket.
