Knowing you're full.

I am 8 days post op and feeling great ... I can drink an 8oz Protein Shake in minutes though without feeling "full" or any sign that I am going too fast I am also able to drink Water easily. Shouldn't I feel full if I am drinking all 8oz of a Protein shake? ? Or is it just because it is liquid that it goes through the pouch easily and on into the digestive system? Just wondering... I have my follow up on Thursday and will ask my surgeon but has anyone else had this ?

I get pressure and feel like I'm going to have reflux. I always measure out my meal. Sometimes I will walk around for 10mins and the feeling will go away...or I walk to the bathroom....ick!!! I'm only 5weeks out' date=' so still learning to be mindful of the chewing and tiny bites. I totally drank from a straw yesterday without even thinking!!! How does that happen??? Getting off subject here, but sometimes I feel so spacey! I think I need more protein![/quote']

For those measuring food, are you measuring by weight, measuring cups or both? I have yet to go to the class, I will on ably find this out, but wanted to be prepared.

You should actually be able to do both.

Measuring - depends on what it is. meat I usually go with ounces, other things I use the measuring cup. An oz of lettuce is very different than an oz of chicken volume wise so a measuring cup would be better for lightweight items imo. My surgeon recommends 1/2 cup total volume per meal until my 6 mo checkup. Your team may have different recommendations.

I am usually pretty good at telling when I am full but this evening was not the case! I decided to try turkey meatballs. I ate two and then I was in the most horrible pain. I finally threw up which wasn't bad like before having the bypass lol but I immediately felt better. I am going to have to really pay attention next time I attempt those.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
