Had that pain when my l4 was fully blown, ended up having disc replacement, bone grafts, and three fusions. I still have some pain and weakness.

This is one of the main reasons I am having wls! I have severe stenosis and herniation in my back and have been dealing with this pain for years! I have had several injections, but the pain management Dr. Says that I will need surgery within the year. Not much more he can do for me at this point. I have "flare-ups" all the time where I have a hard time walking. Weight loss may help, but if it doesnt, at least i'll lose the weight necessary to have back surgery. I am sorry you are going through this, because I know it IS NOT FUN! Keep moving, and stretch. Look online, there are many websites that can give you tips. Good luck!

I also use an ice pack. Helps me, for a time anyhow. I can't take ibuprofen or anything like it so that sucks as well. If you can take aleve, it helps.

When I had it I had to go to a sports medicine therapist. They had me do lots of stretching and exercising to loosen it up plus used a deep muscle massage. Took me a while to get rid of it and boy was it painful. Every once in a while I can feel it coming on but, I do the stretches he taught me with the straps/belts and it really helps. Hope you feel better soon!

I agree go to the doctor and get your back checked out or the underlining issue. I had this a couple of weeks ago and went straight to an acupuncturist. After 2 sessions it was gone. Just a suggestion...

Its not fun. I'm on my way to get another epidural here soon, and the deep muscle tissue does help but the weight I'm carrying isn't doing me any good.

That's one reason I had wls. Three years ago I had l4 and l5 spinal fusion. Just stretch and don't over exert yourself. Get rest and u should feel better.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
