Band Mom 3 17 Posted February 9, 2013 Hello All! I have been reading your posts for the last two weeks and decided that it was about time for me to join. I have been considering RNY for several years, but always had one reason (excuse) or another to stop me. Well, it's time to take care of myself now! I went to the information seminar on January 29th, immediately made appointments for colonoscopy and mammogram (my sweet dad passed away on Christmas Eve from lung cancer . ...had colon cancer a few years ago) so my PCP wants to rule that out for me. I had my 1st PCP appointment on 2/6 and will have blood work results back next week. I also have psych appointment scheduled for early March. I am so excited about the future for the first time in a very long time! My insurance (BCBS Alabama) does cover the procedure and I will have about $400 out of pocket expenses. I look forward to celebrating with all of you as we change our lives for the better! I am hoping for a mid-July surgery date, as I am a Staff Training Specialist with my school district and would like to not have to use up a lot of leave at the beginning of the school year. Dorian 683 Posted February 9, 2013 Welcome! I am new here as well, and I can tell you that I am so glad that I found this site. Sorry to hear about your dad. That cannot be easy. I am looking for a surgery date in late April or early May. I am using this time to learn as much as I can so I know what to expect. Good luck to you in your journey! I'm sure I will see you here! 1 Band Mom 3 reacted to this

I too am brand new to this. I went to the initial Seminar about two years and decided that the Gastric Bypass surgery was too invasive and made the decision not to have it. I went yesterday (2/9/13) to another Seminar and I think I'm ready now. I have my first appointment with Dr. Halmi on Monday, March 5th. 1 Band Mom 3 reacted to this
Kwagner01 6 Posted February 10, 2013 Hi! I am brand new to this too. Made the decision for myself in January. Went to the Education class on 2/7. I have to have an endoscopy, ultrasound of the gallbladder, psy consult, and meeting with the dietian. Then they will submit the paperwork to the insurance. I am looking forward to this life changing journey. Hope to have surgery around mid May...... 1 Band Mom 3 reacted to this

Band Mom 3 17 Posted February 26, 2013 I had my informational meeting with my surgeon this evening. The only thing that I missed in the first session with the Bariatric Nurse Navigator was that I was going to have to have an EGD done to check for H. pylori. Is this something that I should have scheduled at the same time as my colonoscopy? It would be ideal to keep the number of times I have to have anesthesia to a minimum.
