I couldn't figure out what was up!!!! Every time I peed I had this sharp burning pain through my crotch...I was baffled. As soon as that stupid drain was pulled pain was instantly gone! It was just rubbing on stuff. Make sure you take a dose of pain meds an hour or so before they pull that east out though!!!!

I had a pump the first 2 nights and could give myself a dose every 8 minutes if I needed it. I REALLY like being able to control my dosing, not have to wait on a nurse for a shot when it starts to hurt, etc...that said I am a pansy when it comes to meds, I really don't take anything so it typically doesn't take much for me! Good luck, if its not working tell them! Don't be shy!!!

Hi, I'm in the UK and had my op Feb 8th had a drain for 2 days. After about 16 hours a reading of Fluid in the drain was taken then emptied. I was then given a blue dye drink to take and then it was monitored to see if there were any leaks, all was ok and my drain was taken out next day. It is the deepest of the 5 holes and I do get the odd twinge from it now and again. Did anyone use oils like Vitamin E for example to help the healing or did most people let it dry on it's own accord?

I did not have a drain for my lap band surgery but I had three for my RNY. Two of them came out before I left the hospital and didn't really bother me because I was so drugged up. I had one that stayed in for a week and it drove me crazy. It was the JP drain the others have mentioned and I am glad that I had it because I did drain quite a lot of Fluid. When it came out it felt like there was a giant snake in my body being pulled out. It did not feel good, but it wasn't exactly painful either. It was the thing I was most afraid of and once it came out, I didn't give it another thought.

I had to have 1 but when they pulled it out it does feel uncomfortable but nothing like razorblades it just feels like somethings wrapped around your ribs in your back. just take a deep breath in and when they're ready to pull keep breathing out every time there pulling.

Mine had black cotton around it and there were a few tugs before it could be cut loose. I remember looking at the ceiling and thinking the worst was over and it was downhill from here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
