Today was a very bad day... My first one

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how far into this process I would have "buyer's remorse". Now, just over 2 months from my initial consult, today was the day.

I had my first (and hopefully ONLY) vomiting episode this afternoon. I had tried to drink my Protein Shake a bit too soon after eating a piece of turkey bacon. Oh Lordy, I almost didn't make it to the bathroom fast enough. That was the strangest puking I've ever experienced. Everything came up exactly as it went down, including the cold shake. LOL (Sorry, TMI)

After that, I got so depressed, thinking, "How on earth am I supposed to get any food Protein in? One day I can eat chicken... The next day I can't. One day eggs are fine... The next day they make me nauseous. It would be so much easier if I didn't have that "75 GRAMS OF PROTEIN" hanging over my head.

Please, please tell me it gets easier.

While I can't tell you gets any better, (I am only 1 week post). I can tell you we are all here for you, and to just take it a day at a time and look how far you have come.

It does get better. I would eat one item at a time. I found then and even now mixing foods makes me feel off or slightly nauseated. But each week it gets easier. Hang in there :-)

It honestly does get easier. While even now almost a year out I sometimes forget to chew the heck out of my food and will still have issues. My husband and kids all know the look when it happens and just roll their eyes and say mom.... chew your dang food. Something we have done so mindlessly our whole lives... EAT... we have to now be really aware of. Hugs your way girlie.

Omg me too. I got so sick I started puking blood. Called my doctors and they told me to go back onto liquid stage but now my tummy hurts. I am also having buyers remorse. This feeling is horrible and I hope it goes away soon.

I feel like we all might go through this at some point, we feel sick, have buyers remorse, or are stuck in complication land! we need to find the strength to believe in the process and pray that everything will be ok as we achieve our goals and remember why we did this in the first place! best of luck to you ladies

I am 7 months post op and I am just now hitting my Protein goals everyday. The thought of a Protein Shake made me run for the bathroom. Something changed between 6-7 months and I was able to tolerate them. Granted I still stand over my sink and say ok I can do this it is only 4oz of liquid. Hang in there and do the best you can!

Thank you so much, everyone! I'm feeling better today. I'm going to try Cream of Wheat again (didn't agree with me a couple of weeks ago) and am going to take it easy until my next appointment on Thursday. I'm supposed to be moved from puréed to soft foods, so I'm hoping that he does that. (not like I've puréed anything this far, anyway! LOL)

My morning shake went down with no problems, as did my prescriptions, Vitamins and Water, so I'm sure yesterday was just a matter of eating too much, too fast, and not chewing well.

I love all you guys! Thank you, as always, for your encouragement!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
