Welcome Gastric Bypass Veterans!

Recommended Posts

So what is the definition of a veteran?

Great question! You obviously qualify because you're able to post in here :D . Here's what I posted for the forum's description:

This forum is dedicated to veteran Gastric Bypass patients who are six or more months post-op, to discuss issues specific to those who are further along in their journey. You must have 100 posts in order to post here.

Well. ..now I am coming past 10 months. I had slowed to 5-7 lbs per month and now have gained 3 lbs and am in a major stall. I am so frustrated. Nothing lost in a month. thinking about doing a week long fast with only liquids. ..but it so kills my energy levels.

I hit my goal weight but have readjusted it down to 158 ... Im stalled too but not worried. I am pretty happy where I am at and feel like my body will lose if it wants to. The thought of all liquids is not even appealing to me... but ya know it might just jump start you. Good luck

Went to my one year post op appt yesterday. Iron and Protein was on the low side. He told me to take a second iron... Ugh have Constipation issues and start drinking a second shake... Double ugh. For one... Am I stupid to think of it like empty calories... Yes I am... Just suck it up! Anyway he wanted me to way 175 when I first started... I'm now down to 162.. And want to got to 158... He rolled his eyes and laughed when I told him I just wanted to be in the normal bmi for my height. I know it's just a number.. But it's right there within reach. Losing about 1-2 pounds a month now if lucky. But feeling great!

I am just over a year out from having RNY gastric bypass. The last couple of days I've been having peculiar sensations in my tummy, the only way I can describe it is to say it's like when your tummy does a nervous flip when you see someone you fancy (that sounds crazy I know but is the only way I can describe it). Has anyone else experienced this at all?

normaleigh, What sort of issues are you referring to? as there are many depending on the person, a few examples are dumping on sugars, fats or carbs. other issues are food intolerance's like lactose then you have the celiac's who cannot tolerate wheat.

New on this I used to be 315 now I'm 250 after surgery I lost 65 already but I am gaining the weight back. I am not happy about that; please tell me what can I do

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
