Be honest - BM's and Gas?

Recommended Posts

I'm pre-op. Can anyone tell me honestly and frankly how their lower GI tract function differed post-op? I'm reading a lot about gas and Constipation. Is this forever? Just initally? Does anyone have "normal" BMs? Does anyone not have this horrible gas? Do papaya enzymes and Probiotics take care of this?

I am 11 weeks out and I don't have a lot of gas. I did right after surgery from the air they pump into you. That lasts a week or so. However, I do have issues with Constipation. I am fine with stool softners and milk of magnesia about 2-3 times per week. It is partly because of the Iron and the lack of fruits and veggies. Once your diet evens out these issues seem to go away. Me BF had RNY about 2 years ago and was fine a few months out. Good luck.

Well I have very very smelly has. I have discovered my husband loves me deeper than I thought. Because only someone that loves you would stick around for that. I had diahrrea for 6 months straight. I just discovered if I take my B12 my BMs are normal.

Hope this helps

I am only 8 days post op so a lot of things can change but I have tons of gas. I need to take Simethicone about 3-4 times a day. I am having a problem with loose stools but I am hoping that this all evens out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
