I’m soon to be 52- had bypass March 23rd,2018.I’ve lost 90 lbs and passed my goal weight! It’s been hard but so worth it. I! I’m also a surgical nurse who has seen tons procedures performed-honestly thought it would be like getting my gallbladder out- it’s NOT! It’s taken me all this time to feel “good” again. I have good days and bad- but all depends on how much Protein and Water I’m able to get in. It’s not a quick fix- you must deal with the mental side of it- but if you’re like me, and been an overweight yo yo dieter all your life, it is a great tool to set you on your path of learning to adjust your lifestyle and obtain better eating habits!

Hi!

61 years young. I had RNY 9/6 with no problem.

Rather than age its important to consider comorbidities such as DM, HTN, etc.

The good news is these tend to resolve after weight loss.

Go for it... it will be a life saver.

I haved RNY when I was 61. Four years ago. .please don't hesitate to have the surgery. Life changing in every way. I still deal with health problems. But diabetes is gone. I had a knee replacement. Vein procedures. The wear and tear obesity puts on the body is amazing.

If I could give advice ... Start exercise asap. Know that after the first year it gets harder. I'm still a compulsive eater. And it is still worth it. Good luck.

It has been a long time since I posted anything as there were not too many in their 60s or above. I had a lap band prior to me turning 70 (69). At 73 discovered it had slipped, new doctor removed it and 10 weeks later had gastric bypass. (Other dr's office never checked the band except day of surgery). Gastric didn't cure too much, as prediposed through heredity per the surgeon, but with that said it has helped and have maintained my weight loss below a 30 BMI. Would I do it again, you bet. Had a heart cath that prompted the lap band an another last month my heart is doing well. No change. That is a positive as have outlived Dr's predictions hadn't I not done either I probably not be posting today. So anyone considering this do it. You will have a new life. Thus my name here.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
