kinsse 171 Posted September 6, 2013 I'm 71 and having surgery next Wednesday. Had lapband though at 66 and just had it removed in May. Not actually scared' date=' as I'm taking an attitude of what will be, will be. All I know if I follow doctor's orders and there are problems, it won't be anything I did. Have 50 lbs to lose, but getting rid of diabetes I hope will be the best outcome from this for me.[/quote'] I pray u do well n no more diabetes.!!!
TurnThePage 220 Posted September 22, 2013 On the sunny side of 60, 4 weeks out from surgery and really, really looking forward to being a feisty old lady like my great grandmother and great aunt who lived to 96! 1 momlambert reacted to this
oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted September 23, 2013 Had the surgery, doing great will be going back to work on Wednesday. Down 7 lbs last time I weighed. Had very little discomfort to speak of. Blood pressure is down to normal with 2 1/4 pills, which I'll probably have to take because of dystolic disfunction of the heart, still taking a little insulin on the pump but actually running close to normal in the 80's. Stamia is still weak but understand, I'm not as young as I use to be, but doing better than when I had the lapband. 1 momlambert reacted to this

Judyr 57 Posted October 8, 2013 I'm 69 and scheduled for surgery on Nov 19. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and reflux, so I am so looking forward to this procedure. I am in the process of seeing many specialists and having tests done, but I am feeling confident and hopeful. In my heart I am still in my 50s. Lol 1 oldoneyoungagain reacted to this

Lol Know what you mean about still being in your 50's in your heart, that is the reason for my screen name. I had lapband at 68 removed just before my 71 birthday and had RNY bypass on 9/11 after my 71st birthday. Went back to work two weeks later with RNY and actually 4 days after lapband. I have the same health issues, plus dystolic dysfunction of the heart. I'm doing great, slowly losing but then I actually didn't have that much more to lose. Diabetes is better controlled and hopefully in a few months will no longer have to take insulin. They dropped my cholestrol medications plus one of my high blood pressures. I'll never be off my blood pressure meds, but it is an improvement. If you feel 50 now by the time you lose your weight you should be about 29.

Give my daughter a run for her money. Have two Dr appts to go, cardiologist and kidney specialist. So far everything is progressing smoothly. I have been cleaning out refrig and pantry in preparation. Trying to lose weight now and shrink that liver. Love this website, so much information. The one thing I am sensing is that taste buds change after surgery, so some of my purchase may not be to my liking after surgery. Will have to keep that in mind before doing too much more. Just want to be ready.
oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted October 10, 2013 So far, I tried a Cheesit (sp) and didn't care for the flavor. Also, Protein Powder being too sweet so have to make sure what I add to my smoothies. Tried some deli meat, it is too salty. Tried Wendy's chilli, that was okay. That is the extent of what I have noticed my taste buds changing. I'm sure more is to come. Just have to get hungry to try more things.
Judyr 57 Posted October 10, 2013 I just made a Protein Shake with blackberries, 1/2 cup milk and Water. It is so thick. You cannot drink it, you have to gulp. This wont work post surgery. Not real fond of it either. Blackberries were frozen, so might not be freshest. Anyone experimenting with Protein Shakes?

DevilBlueDress 189 Posted October 14, 2013 Where are you getting your sf syrups? Amazon and a local grocery store. Look for Torani and DaVinci brands.

oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted October 14, 2013 My favorite, even though you didn't ask me, is coconut. Also have irish creme & banana which I haven't tried yet. Also Kaluha which is okay.
