I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

Recommended Posts

I am 61 and had my bypass on 1/28/13. I have lost 34 lbs and am off of 2 out of 3 meds for diabetes. Working on the 3rd. Best move I ever made. I already feel better and my joints are thanking me every day (I also have Fibromyalgia)

I am off U500 insulin in my pump and on regular novo log now. My Diabetic Educator said there is a good chance I will be off all insulin with hopes my pancreas kicks in again. I'm adult onset type 1. My surgery was Feb 20 and doing great. Wish I could have done this years ago! Go baby boomers!!

I am off Levemir, Victoza and Metformin.....meaning all of them. My sugars have not gotten over 112 since my surgery which was a week and a half ago. No meds for diabetes nor blood pressure sinced my surgery. My drug bill will be almost nil now.

That is amazing!! I hope the same happens to me! Just being on the pro op diet has brought my castings to 100.

Hello RNY Buddies, I am having my surgery on Monday March 11th 3 days for now. I am so ready to start this next journey of my life. I was walking around this afternoon and my knees were killing me and it just reinforced me to have this surgery. Like I have said before I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Wish me luck and good luck to all of you who are still waiting to have this surgery. I am really going to need a shoulder to lean on when I get back from the hospitla next week. There are RNY pros who have been thruough this and I need to know you are there for me. Have a great weekend everyone. I know I will get little sleep this weekend.

You are never to old to get healthier !! I feel younger than ever!! Good luck to everyone getting ready for surgery... You will love the new you!

I'm 67. Had band removed in October and RNY mid December. Doing quite well except for a few hiccups. Interesting thing tho...have been just diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

I'm 53 and halfway through all my appoinments before getting my surgery date. I feel so old right now. I want to feel healthy and enjoy my empty nest years with my husband and future grandchildren. I have a stress test in two hours - and I am stressing about it.

Good luck with all the preop hoops you have to go through. It really is worth it, even at "our age." Hang in there and keep your eye on the prize--a happier and healthier YOU!

Thanks. Today was only the imaging and the appoinment was only one hour (they break it up - that's why two appointments). The real stress I feel is not coming from the many appointments and tests. It's coming from the fact that I want to have the surgery done and be back at work by June. We are doing a total system conversion in August and the training on it starts in June. I know they can't stop me from having surgery, but I don't want to miss training or inconvenience my coworkers in any way. And I am excited about learning something new.

The workshops for April are full. My only hope of getting in is if someone backs out or doesn't come up with the money. Otherwise I'm not getting in till May and they won't submit to insurance till workshops are done. After that I get a surgery date. So PLEASE PLEASE I hope I get in the April workshops. May is so far away and then it may mean a June surgery date... that would be terrible timing.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
