I am having bypass and my biggest fear is nausea. I have always had anxiety over throwing up and nausea, it's almost a phobia. My question to everyone is, do you always get nausea at some point? Is it like flue nausea? I am almost second guessing myself on doing this because I'm so concerned about it.

First of all be proactive. Explain your fears to your doctor and he or she can prescribe something. Second, for me personally, The nausea I felt was from eating too fast... it was more like a foamy stuck feeling.. not a rumbly tummy feeling. You will be fine. Just take all new foods slowly... chew chew chew. And follow your doctor and nuts orders. Good luck my dear!!!

I was the same way. I let the surgeon know right away. Unfortunately, one of the side effects is nausea and I had terrible effects of it. From day of surgery Thursday until Saturday afternoon- I spent most of the time in bed due to nausea- no throwing up though. I had a scopolamine patch on and they also sent me home on Sunday on one. Zofran didn't help much but they gave that to me every four hours along with phenergan and compazine, prilosec and reglan. Most of mine I think was from the Fentanyl PCA and patch and then pain. Much better after discharge..

I am only nine days post op. The only nausea I have had so far is right when I woke up from surgery and it was horrible. I have never been that nauseated but it only lasted about an hour maybe a little longer and then it went away and I had no more nausea so far thank goodness!

I was doing awesome, never had any nausea. But when 5 weeks post op hit, I have been nauseated since. No rhyme or reason.

I would rather be in pain than have nausea. Great question- I can't stand throwing up either. I will remember to say something the day of surgery!

I was a lot like you. I could count on my hands the times I had thrown up in my life prior to surgery. However surgery changed everything. I have thrown up a lot and have had lots of nausea. My biggest mistake is that I did not talk to my doctor about it. When he found out he got me on meds to make it better and then things turned around for me. In the last 3 months I have only thrown up 2 times and both were my fault. I ate too fast and did not chew enough. I will say the fears I had about the nausea and throwing up were a lot worse in my head when I think back, but I will not lie to you I was miserable for a while.

i nearly didn't leave the hospital for fear of the nausea. Made them promise to give me something. They sent me home on the Patches. And I used them the first couple of weeks and I have put one on a time or two in the past few weeks. I am over eight weeks out. I would rather have pain then feel yuck. So I was for sure to tell them that I get sick from anesthesia and really made sure that they knew that I would come out throwing up if they didn't give me something. and they did. So I understand your fear. But it can be managed, just be sure and let them know and don't leave the hospital without something to treat it with at home.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
