Alcohol

Recommended Posts

Personal choice for me is I'm not drinking... Wasn't really much to drink a glass so not a big deal. I will say I have read many studies of high rates of addiction to alcohol with rny patients. I think it's a waste of calories and pouch space.

Docs recommend 6-12months before trying but theres people who have tried at 5 months and are doing good just watch wat you drink cause sometimes it has to many carbs and it will make you dump. I miself would like a drink in a future maybe at a party or reunion but I dont feel I would get addicted. I would say when ur ready take it slow with moderation and pay attention to how you feel. Well thats my opinion

Before surgery I would drink a glass of wine every now an then.. I don't think it would lead to an addiction !!!

Studies don't fabricate. And there are plenty of them out there. alex the founder of this site has posted numerous articles on this subject. Research for yourself only you can make the decision.

I had a glass about 3 months post op, the alochol did not affect me any differently from pre op to post op. You just need Portion Control and alcohol is empty calories so drink smart !!

I tried beer out of curiosity & nothing happened other than I felt full & guilty because of no nutritional value & worthless carbs. No "buzzed" feeling at all. Not worth messing with in my experience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
