I decided to keep it to myself what type of surgery I am having. The women at my work are very nosey and mean especially my supervisor. She is a very jealous women. So I decided I would just take two weeks off for my vacation and have surgery. But with all these appointment my supervisor found out I am having surgery but it is killers her to know what type .. And this afternoon I was handed fmla papers I have to fill out. I told her I didnt plan to take fmla but they said I have to. So my question is does the doctor put exactly what the surgery is or can her just put a general explaination.

I just filled out my short term medical and fmla stuff and u can send it directly to the company that handles it and so can ur dr. Nobody has to know what ur doing. That's how mine works. The hr ladies knows because she was helping me fill out paper work but other than that, nobody has to know. It's ur private issue.

FMLA can be a double edge sword in my experience. It protects your job and when you take off due to illness it allows you to do so no questions asked. Keep in mind there is a possibility that you have some issues post op.

the other edge is that they do put what is going on with you and I have found that it can cause issues. I have rhuematoid arthitis and have had to go on FMLA a few times. Each time I have in some ways regretted it. It is true it goes to your HR person, but usually they let the supervisor know what is going on. I have had issues with gossip and resentment for having to take off. At this point I will not file FMLA unless I absolutely have to.

I didn't realize this qualified for FMLA. How do you go about handling that?

If you are going to be out for any length of time use to medical issues it will qualify for FMLA. You need to get the forms from your hr person and have your doc fill them out.

I dont have short term disability. Everything goes directly to hr. I work for such a small company.

If you truly think you will have issues with this boss. Please think about it and then rethink about it. Speak with your doctor and family members. Read up on it.

If you have questions please don't hesitate to send me a message.

Breath... Is ok. Go to hr and talk to them. Don't let this get in the way. Go straight to hr. You can trek your boss your protected by hippa and you have the right not to tell then what your going for. If you continue to have issues tell hr, is a big liability issue, your health is protected, its the law. Message me if you need support.

Thank you so much for the support. I think I will go to bed and get a good nights sleep. Then will go talk to hr in the morning.

I don't believe they can force you to file FMLA if you are using vacation time.

It is a HIPPA violation for HR to tell your supervisor what kind of surgery you are having. HR will tell her you are on medical leave and when you plan to return to work. That is it

Your stories are making me thankful for where I work. I requested the FMLA packet from the person who handles it in our office and the email that I got from her was that she was having the same surgery with the same surgeon I am using 2 weeks before I am. They are very understanding. Several of my co-workers have WLS and there have been no issues with time off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
