Maybe not keeping it a secret?

I'm glad to hear this. I think I will keep it quiet for now, and then consider sharing with anyone who inquires afterward, once it's already done. I'm just so skeptical that this won't become a BIG DEAL. My 6 year old was diagnosed with autism last year, and seriously, everyone and their mother has something to say about it, and it's like they expect me to detail every symptom and behavior. These people aren't TRYING to be negative, but when they hear about this diagnosis, after inquiring about one of his quirks, they are incredulous and want to know every detail, and try to explain away all of his behaviors. "What do you mean, 'he does xyz??!! My son does that too and he's FINE!" or "So what if he does xyz! That doesn't mean anything!"

It gets really exhausting and I get pretty pissy even with good friends and end up saying, "I don't need to justify his diagnosis to you." That usually shuts them up, but then everyone is awkward after that. But their doubt about the whole thing feels a little judgmental. I guess that's a better example of my concern, people feeling like I should be justifying my decision, particularly after the fact.

The best part is, I will be going back to work in August (as a teacher) after 5 years of being a SAHM. No one will know me as fat (let's hope all goes well in the first 6 months).

Hey Debbie- your avatar looks familiar. Were you on a SugarBusters forum?

Well I posted it on my Face Book wall is tells you where I stand. lol

I have received nothing but support and also in the process I found our other friend had the surgery themselves or are having it. I don't feel like its anything to hid. I am doing something proactive to make myself healthier. I have been extremely sick with breathing problems (tracheomalacia) having been in and out of the hospital and having had surgeries everyone understands it is for my health that I am doing this. First step to living yourself and the new you.

Though I do have to say my daughter who is 17 is scheduled for surgery in July. She isn't telling anyone at school except her best friend. She just wants to lose the weight without a big announcement. I am so excited for her surgery she will get a new healthy body in which to start her young adulthood in.

Disclaimer- although most people around me know that I'm having surgery, if I ever go back to my hometown to visit (high school reunion, etc). I will not be sharing:). They can just think I was one of the lucky ones who aged well ;)

Love that! I feel the same. I was being very quiet about surgery and know that I cannot tell my parents (they are 85 and just would never understand surgery).

I have told some of my closest friends because I will need their support. Everyone I've told is supportive and encouraging.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
