Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Recommended Posts

So I have been on this site for awhile but have never posted. I am now posting because I feel I need a group of people behind me. I have been struggling with my weight since I was 5. So being overweight is nothing new to me. I am at my highest weight right now of 380. I hate to even write that down let alone let someone know how much I weigh. I have never told anyone how much I weigh not even my husband. My weight is an everyday battle at this point. I go to the mall with friends and they want to go to places like Charlotte Russe and I always feel like I am the fat girl that can only buy shoes and earrings. I never even glance at the clothing in the stores. :( But after awhile I guess I got used to it. Now after surgery I want to be able to shop in those stores. I am now very dedicated to my weight loss.

I have been through all of my dietician meetings and now I am just waiting to have my appt with the surgeon to schedule my surgery. I am very excited to have my RNY surgery. I do fear that I will get stuck in certain stages and not want to move on. I fear I will enjoy the weight loss and not want to eat solid foods or move on to higher amounts of food. My family tells me they are behind me but I do not feel like they understand everything. They have never been at this high of a weight. This is why I am now posting to RNY talk. I feel if I have support from other people who have been through the surgery or about where I am at this would help me.

Well you came to the right place for support. We have all been through it and have come out the other side.

Support of family is a key element to this, and although they may not truly understand everything. If are supportive then that is all that matters.

You will have set backs, but always keep in mind it took years to get where you are today and it will take time to lose it.

Please don't compare yourself to others and their weight loss journey. We are all very different and our bodies react to things differently. Just know that sticking with the program will cause you to lose weight. Also your fear of not wanting to move to new foods will go away. You will find that most people can eat what they want, but in much much smaller portions. It will take your new pouch some time to get use to things, and hopefully by then you are making the right food choices. This journey is more mental than physical. The physical part takes care of itself. If you eat the wrong thing your body will punish you. However it is hard to retrain our brains. When you struggle with that post something on the post op board and you will find the support you need. Remember we have all been through it.

Vitamins, Protein and Water are your new goals in life and if you succeed at those three things you will do great.

My last bit of advice is to dream! Dream about your new size and what you will do when you get there. I am not talking only about the physical side of things, but also careers, friends, relationships. It has been such a great 8 months for me. I have been on a long roller coaster, but I am finally seeing the positive results and it is great.

I was like you... no one knew my weight. Actually they still don't, friends and family that is. I struggled all of my life. I was always the fat girl on the team at work or the one who shopped for the earrings and shoes. As Music stated, this is our OWN journey. We will be here to support you and give you guidance. You are not alone. I have no idea what I would have done without this board. Unless you have been through this life changing process, you just can't understand.

Good luck to you!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
