Got my Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

March 5th! :D

And I start drinking those "yummy" shakes on 2/19. Asked for 2 weeks off and boss almost had an attack even though he has known about this since last year. He even got upset because I told him I needed to go to the education class, which is 3 hours and also do blood work, I also get my shakes that day.

Has anyone had a boss who has given them a hard time in a situation like this?....I don't care, I'm just happy I'm all set!

I USED to have a job that was high demand and I could never take off. So to deal with the stress, I ate. Now look where I am! According to the Family Medical Leave Act , your employer must give you 12 weeks off (if you don't have sick pay they don't have to pay you either!) if you have worked there for a year. Look into it if your boss gives you any trouble. BTW my surgery is Feb 19.

My date is 2/25.. I told my work today. I didn't tell them what type of surgery I am having. I feel like if I did they would make things more difficult. I might tell them afterwards.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

He is expecting me back by March 20th, that would be 2 weeks post-op but that's because someone else I have to cover for is going on vacation, You would think with 8 other employees there he would ask them to cover! And I work in a hospital!

My boss was on me about choosing dates that would require the least amount of work on her behalf. She doesn't want to have to do any of the things I have to do that require actual work. She told me it would be "devastating" if I was gone during month end. I said she was being dramatic.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
