I'm getting scared

Recommended Posts

I have surgery scheduled with a Dr. Ramos Kelly in San Deigo/TJ Mexico next Friday. His co-ordinator Shannon made me feel so assured, but now she says that a family emergency has come up and she will not be there. She assures me that the "team" will take good care of me and all my needs. The only reason I decided to travel from Alabama to Cal. by myself was that she was gonna be with me. Now what? Has this happened to anyone else?:cry

If they are anything like Dr. Ortiz's team, you are in good hands. It is not one person who makes the experience so great. Everyone made me feel good. My experience was that as soon as I walked into the clinic, all my anxiety disappeared. I hope you have the same experience. By the way, I was very anxious the night before. My GP had given me a prescription for anti-anxiety meds just in case...I was very glad I had them. I slept well, and it took the edge off the fear. As it turns out, there was nothing to fear, it was a great experience.

I know that you have connected with this one person but in my experience I have found that everyone at my clinic was kind and the best in their field. maybe you take ten minutes before the whole prep experience to talk with the nurse who will be with you. that may put you at ease. good luck and try to remain calm. look forward to the beginning of the "new" you.....

Thanks for the encouragement, I may need you guys to get me thru this week. I am trying not to let my family know how nervous I am. They all think that I am crazy as it is. Not for the surgery, cause my sister and daughter have had gastric bypass, but for going to Mexico to have it done and going by myself. I think now I am focused on learning about fills. Any good info?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
