Is there anyone out there that's already had the surgery and their mind set has totally changed? Not sure I understand your question as there as many ways to take it. I am 8 months post op! I am 200% sure I would do this again, but at 3 months post op I might have said oh hell no. I had issues keeping things down and was miserable for 3 months. Now I can eat just about anything I want, but with Portion Control.

Now your mind set towards food does change in many ways. For example I not sure I will ever eat many eggs again. I threw them up trying to advance to quickly on my diet. Once you have thrown something up it is sometimes hard to eat it again. However the desires of food do not really go away. That part is all in your head. What this surgery does is limit what your stomach can take in. Your mind still thinks you can eat like before, but you learn to listen to your pouch. It is your new guide. Eat too fast and your pouch says NO, eat too much and your pouch says NO, eat the wrong thing (too much sugar) your entire body says NO.

Also remember everyone is different, and you can not compare yourself to them. You will lose the weight if you stick with the program just be patient.

If you want this go get it and watch your dreams come true. I just posted on the post op board that because of my weight loss I have the confidence and physicality to begin the process of being a cop. Doors and windows will open and getting the surgery is the first step.

We are always here for you with and questions and struggles. Trust me I have cried while writing a struggle and the support is wonderful!

RNY Guru,

Thank you soooo much! I really appreciate the encourgement! :( Tears..Im such a big baby! lol YOU have just made my decision so much worth while. I find myself daydreaming of all the things that I'll be able to acheive once I've lost weight. My first doc appointment is next Monday and Ive already "claimed" a speedy process and a great recovery with no complicatiions. My bestfriend and I are on this journey together and I couldnt have asked for a better person to do it with. I decided the RNY procedure would be best for me and she decided to go with the sleeve. Ive tried to look at all aspects of the surgery in a whole...the good the bad and the ugly as well as the TOTALLY AWESOME! Ive tried sooo many diets, fasts, diet pills, shakes ect. and could never keep the weight off. That's the reason I decided on the RNY procedure. I know I need the "extra" help! By the way CONGRATS  on your decision to become an Officer! I hope you dont mind me asking but why did you choose to become an Officer?

Glad I could help. It is the beginning to a wonderful and challenging journey.

I often thought of careers that interested me and I enjoy being out in the field. I am an animal control officer right now and getting my peace officer license would advance my career. I really want to do cruelty work. My husband is an ex-cop and he supports me. I recently met a great police officer and have been helping him catch a stray dog and he has offered to help me get in and stay in the academy. His wife teaches firearms training and they are both real excited to help.

I am a spiritual person and truly believe my grandmother has set all this in motion. Meeting the cop and helping him out.

I also now how the confidence to do this. People no longer see me as the fat girl. I am the athletic woman I have always been inside of my fat suit.

About three years ago I thought about doing the surgery, but kept making excuses. When I thought about it again in June it was such an easy decision. Once my mind was made up that was that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
