Omg this woman is driving me nuts on recovery

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery can't believe I get to say yesterday (23rd). There weren't any recovery rooms for a Cpap machine monitor so I have been in regular recovery. Well there is a lady who has been screaming for more medication and the nurses can't give her anymore. So, I am the lucky patient who gets to share the nurse with her and they said it was because I was easy to work with.

It sounds like she could be recreation user based on her yelling. Not confirmed, but that is what I am thinking.

some people are just whiners too-you know, those people that stub their toe and they think their leg is broken lol

There were some pain hollering folks on my nursing unit. I wanted to tell the nurse to give them my meds so they could calm down. Hope your neighbor gets fixed up soon so you can rest.

Congrats on your surgery!!! :-). I'd snap and tell her to shut the hell up. I was pretty foul right after surgery. Lol. Good luck! You'll be home soon.

I was in the same position you are. The women across the hall would ask for pain meds, when she couldn't get that she would ask for zofran, when she ran out of that she would ask for tylenol, all the while crying and saying how nobody cared about her. Ugh.... My nurse cracked me up though because he gave me a little name badge that said "best patient ever" because I didn't "give him any grief". I wouldn't want a nurses job for all the money in the world. I have great respect for them.

Being a nurse myself for over 18 years, I can tell you that each patient's pain threshold is different. Also some medications just do not work for some people. You may give a tiny dose to one person and they sleep all day and another you could give a dosage big enough to drop a horse and it just does not work.

I have to add to this thread..I was a pain in the bum in hospital..but you know what it was from?. The medication they gave me, Oxycodone and Morpheine caused me to be paranoid, delusional and I was just not on earth for at least a week....I am embarrassed by my actions and what I said to the nurses and others...So people who are loud and complaining, give them a break, they may be under the influence of some drugs and not know what they're doing or saying...

Pain meds don't work on me at all. Neither did any of the anti-nausea meds plus I had to be re-catheterized three times. I tried to be cool about it but I was in so much discomfort. Still, the woman next to me was worse lol.

Morphine and zofran didn't work on me either. Till finally they gave me dilaudid and phenegren. The pain went away and I was a happy camper. The last time I went in for gallbladder surgery I had the same nurse that I had with gastric and she remembered me and when she saw the surgeon ordered zofran and morphine she called and he changed it.

I came out of surgery on my foot like the pain in the ass patient. The surgeon put in an ankle block and no systemic pain meds. What he didn't know was that his ankle block (like an epidural, but in a nerve in your ankle) didn't work. So when I woke up from having 5 screws drilled into my bones, I felt every.little.detail. of that surgery. And there were no orders for meds for me until 8 hours later.... when they thought the ankle block would wear off. I've NEVER felt such pain in my life. And I cried and yelled and screamed until they finally understood that I needed some damned pain meds.

So yeah. Sometimes, patients can't help it. Sorry you had to be stuck there with her though.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
