questions for experienced bandsters

Recommended Posts

I just got my second fill and I am starting to feel some restriction I think. It is taking me a while to eat stuff and I got some tuna slightly stuck I felt a lump and small amt of pressure then it went down in a matter of a few seconds. But that isnt what restriction feels like or is it?? I really didnt feel "full" I did feel satisfied, but an 1.5-2 hours later I am hungry again. I wasnt drinking either with the meal. Is it normal to feel hungry that fast? Do people with the proper fill really stay full for a 3-4 hours?? I am doing Protein first etc. trying for follow the rules thanks Jill

Its pretty much how I experience the band. I dont get full quick, stop and then stay full for hours - if I'm eating something that goes down well I can eat quite a lot of it, if I'm eating something that doesnt, I get full quick but then get hungry very quickly afterwards.

Since personality wise, I diet much better on 3 meals a day and not on constant Snacks, I've elected to stay looser so I can get enough in to sit with me for a while. I've lost weight quite well on 1500 or more calories a day so it works for me.

Sometimes I get hungry more quicklly than I would hope that I would. One thing that I do is drink a bottle of Water in between meals. So, if I start thinking I'm feeling hungry after 2 hours or even one, but that doesn't usually happen for me, I will drink water. Usually, that will keep me full until the time for a next meal. It is hard to get the water in if I don't start feeling hungry, because than I will forget to drink anything.

I try to stay at a restriction level which allows me to stay satisfied for 3 hours. When I am eating right (following the rules) and it seems like you are doing the same but get hungry again before 3 hours then I talk to my doctor about a fill. He agrees that 3 hours of satisfaction from eating is an optimal way to guage restriction. However, sometimes I just plain haven't eaten enough and get hungry sooner. So, make sure you're eating a reasonable portion of food and if it doesn't last for more than an hour or two I'd say that you probably need a fill. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
