I hate protein shakes :-(

Recommended Posts

Hold your noise girl. It sucks! I hate Protein Shakes to the fullest and haven't found one I like yet so it's torture getting them down. The best one, if you can even call it that, is the "Premier Protein" from costco the chocolate kind. It is the best tasting, if you can call it that either lol, and has 30g of Protein per shake. I have heard the "Nectar" shake powder in cappucinno and the chocolate truffle is delicious. Going to order some this weekend. Good luck. It sucks but you have to do it. Time to step out of the comfort zone and just do what you have to do even if you don't want to. This whole process is about doing things and going through things you don't want to. It starts now so practice it. It's a HUGE change. We are all here to support you and be that sholder to cry on. :)

I am amazed as too how many of you need to be on liquid diets for weeks prior to surgery. I was placed on 1200 cal.for one week and liquid for day before surgery. ..my surgery was last Wednesday. ..my husband Is scheduled for sleeve on 2/11 and he too was told only liquids day before surgery...well anyhow. .premier Protein Shake from costco is best...especially when its very cold.

I really enjoy the Atkins cafe caramel Protein shake. I also enjoy the nectar that is the roadside lemonaide flavor. I mix a scoop with 16 oz of Water and a packet of crystal light. It tastes really good!

I was the same way about Protein shakes, but now I love my atkins once so much, I have one a day...

Good luck with everything!

Anyone hear of protizyme?? People say it is good (reviews online) but that it is kind of expensive. I don't really care about the price if I can stomach it haha.

I mix a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder with a tablespoon or two of SF instant pistachio pudding mix with skim milk and a tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt. It's delicious.

Ok I'm with you on disliking Protein Shakes. What i have found to get my Protein is Isopure clear per mixed and also fit frappe by big train. You can make it hot cold or blended with ice! Favorite!! I don't like the foamy texture. I'm a little three months out and 64 lbs down! Good luck!

You can buy single serve samples of Protizyme at Nashua Nutrition online. You can try the different flavors for $1.95 each rather than buy a whole tub. They sell Syntrax samples & others as well. It really helped me out 'cause ones I thought would be good really weren't.

I have tried several Protein Drinks. GNC has one called Wheybolic (not the plain Whey!!) that does not have a nasty taste. Even my daughter likes it. Also the Bariatric Advantage are good. They have many flavors on their website. What about Greek yogurts? My Dr lets me eat these. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
