Talking about food....

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering I I'm the only one.... I am about four months into the six month pre-surgery weight loss education and I realized today how utterly sick I am of thinking about food. I'm not just talking because of the changes I am trying to make. I have just had an epiphany that I am totally sick of food being something I spend so much time thinking about, preparing for and devouring. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one but I'm over food being so important in my life.

Amen! I feel the same way. But that's the point of the dieting, in my opinion, to teach u that food is ur choice and it only has the control you give it. :) keep up the good work!

I'm a month post-op and feel like food runs my life so much more now than it did before. I feel like all I do is think about what, when and how much I can eat and I feel like I talk about food so much now to people. Maybe it's just because I'm now paying attention and before I would just mindlessly eat whatever I wanted, but I don't want people to think I'm some food-obsessed weirdo who can't talk about anything other than my new food lifestyle.

I am 8 months post op and although I still think a lot about food it is now about what food is going to allow me to reach my goals. In other words your focus changes and how you look at food. You start seeing it from the point of view as food for fuel. You can choose regular, upgrade or premium. They all have their pros and cons and it is now up to you to choose the best for you and your situation that day.

I am 6 months post op (today) :) and I think about all day everyday. I have to think about what I'm going to eat how I'm going to cook it and how much Protein is in it?!

I wish I could turn my internal dialog off when it comes to food but its all about choices if I don't over think it ill probably end up messing up and diving in for empty worthless food that just looks and taste good but not putting me any closer to my goal.

Your relationship with food is going to keep changing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
