erikaloftin 62 Posted January 22, 2013 I had an Puls Ox machine that strapped on my wrist like a watch and went on my finger. They sent it home with me and I took it back that next morning. If that comes back normal, I won't have to do an in center sleep study. If it comes back abnormally, then they will want me to come in for a full sleep study. 1 TxDumplin reacted to this

B.J. 16 Posted January 23, 2013 Hopefully I could put some ease to the topic. I'm a Registered sleep Technologist. The key reason for a sleep Study prior to any major surgery is due to breathing or apnea issues as it relates to being put to sleep. While we are being sedated and put under, it is normal for us to have a higher risk of sleep disordered breathing than what we may already have. Also it is good to have one to detect an additional comorbidity for a better chance at insurance approval. 1 douchewafflebear reacted to this

B.J. 16 Posted January 24, 2013 I have a hard enough time getting to sleep in my own bed :/....I wonder if they will give you ambien to knock you out. That will work <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> We have had patients in our sleep lab who are unable to fall asleep or their sleep just isn't sufficient. In their cases, the Dr only sends them back anyway. It is important, regardless of what you may have been told, to find a sleep aid prior to the study if u already have insomnia. It saves you a lot of time and hassle. If an OTC aid is not sufficient for you then your dr would be able to help. 1 TxDumplin reacted to this
