I have to admit I am guilty in the fact that I always thought you had to be like 400-500 lbs to be elegible for WLS. When my sister who was 240 got approved and had surgery I went for it a year later. We both have the same insurance, I was worried because I was 214 with a BMI of 36 but I was approved with no pre surgery diet or anything. But you are right, even some of my doctors were like your not "that" big where you need WLS... go figure !!! I do educate as I see fit... some people are not worth waisting your time on if you know what I mean - LOL

I have heard all of this as well. I was 212 when I went for my consult. So I heard and still hear that this was not necessary, and if I had just set my mind to it and worked hard I wouldn't have had to take the "easy way out" I have stopped trying to defend my decision. I just tell people it's not their business.

So hear everyone right now. My night nurse told me after surgery that I am too small for this surgery....can you believe this from my nurse. I was 267 when I started this and was down to 243 the day before surgery going to weigh myself on tues. Everyone has THEIR reasons and wouldn't be getting the surgery on a whim!

Aaggghhh! People just can't handle their own insecurities and jealousy. They hate us fat and hate the fact we are doing something about it. Maybe hate is a strong word but you get my point. Glad we can vent and support each other here. Just rem we did this for ourselves

I have heard "Have you really put forth the effort to lose weight on your own?" No' date=' I just want to have surgery for kicks and giggles!

Sent with kindness and support for everyone's journey.[/quote']

I got "Have you ever thought about a diet?". No I've only been trying to diet since I was 10!

I totally agree. I get that all the time "Why don't you just do it the normal way??" Or "I know someone who did that and gained all her weight back. I'm sure you'll do fine though".

I hate when they say that too! If I wasn't a loving man lol...

I completely understand!!!!! I have friends that when I tell them that the goal is to lose 150 lbs and they say either 1) do u even have 150 lb to lose or 2) well I hope you aren't too boney and skinny after because u look good now and carry your weight well. To which I say "my body and joints feel every single lb that I carry and this isn't about vanity, it's about living a more healthy life." I think people immediately jump to the vanity and superficial benefits of losing weight and not the health benefits. They just need to be reminded and have their focus readjusted. I've had good luck with this response and have gotten a lot of support. :)

I like the point ur making. It is so true people need to educate themselves before they criticize.

Sometimes I think people don't know what else to say. I think they think it is a compliment because they aren't comfortable saying "I'm glad you are having surgery because you are/were really overweight!"

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
