Post op and belly fat

Recommended Posts

Hello! My name is Airy and I have a question. I had Gastric Bypass Feb 21,2012 and as of today I am down 120 pounds. I have this fat flab on my stomach and arms and im getting so discouraged cause its not leaving. What are some things I can do to get rid of it? For this much time, has my loss been good or could it have been better? Please let me know! Thanks!

OMG you have done fantastic !! 120 lbs is awesome!! Unfortunately the fat flab is not going to go away unless you have surgery. Skin is not RNY friendly, the younger you are the more likely "some" skin will shrink back but as you get older your skin losses alasticty (sp?) and it will just hang also it depends on how big you were and for how long. Once skin gets streched beyond and you have stretch marks it difficult to get it back without surgery. I am 54 and have been heavy on and off, my arms are flabby and I have a bit of a fat flab of a stomach which will not go away, even if I was 110 lbs that stomach skin would still hand and just be all wrinkley. I wish I had $$$ for a Tummy Tuck !!!

You have done great 120 in a year . Just think it only takes a few months to put that much weight on but a year to take it off.

Keep doing what your. Do you look great.

As for skin UNLESS you are havering sores (HINT HINT) created by the skin flap your Insurance won't cover skin removed.

Again you have done great don't slip backwards

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement. I feel great my health has inproved tremendously. I do get chaffed skin under my tummy at times and my breast. I just relocated from MI to GA and found a surgeon to take over my care. I see him on the 4th of Feb. and Im going to address the issues to him. I hear he is pretty good about the skin surgery recommendation so Im staying prayed up and faithful!!!! :)

Im going to start documenting any rash that I get plus any chafing for the year of 2013 in hopes that insurance will cover a Tummy Tuck in 2014. I agree with BB that flap just wont go away for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
