Period & Devo shots

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies,

Need advice & support here. I switched from pills to Devo shots after my surgery. It was my ObGyn & my surgeon's recommendation. Had my 2nd shot about 2 months ago.

Now have been having a severe period for almost three weeks. Very painful cramps & I bleed badly every time I work out that I get (excuse me here) chunks of blood coming out. I called my ObGyn and she said I can go for a check and to choose another method if I want to.

My question now is: is that heavy bleeding normal? Anyone experienced that? What about the cramps? Normal to have them for three weeks?

What are you using for birth control? Am almost 42 with 2 kids & am not considering more children.

Thanks for reading this & helping out.

I have a meeting with my OBGyn next week, I'm going to ask about the IUD or Implant. they last for a few years. I've had bad experiences in the past with the shot & NuvaRing prior to surgery giving my symptoms similar to what you described so I've been off birth control for years, but don't want to risk anything now so I'm hoping the IUD or implant will help.

I've read a couple of posts that ladies are experiencing differences in their cycle post-surgery, but I haven't had mine yet so I can't say personally.

Hope you're able to get it all figured out!

After my surgery in August, I got my period about 2 weeks after surgery and had basically a continuous period until mid October when it started getting really heavy and I had clots in there- like you have. (I was using birth control at the time- Nuva Ring- like I had for years.) My obgyn perscribed something to stop the bleeding. I've been through 2 cycles since I think? And I've been fine- back to normal! So maybe it's just from the release of hormones from all the fat you're losing? Idk if that helps...

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll talk to my ObGyn and see what she says.

I’m pre-op

44

and have a Merina IUD -

I used to have the gigantic chunky heavy periods (TMI) and the only thing that would stop them was meds - that I KNOW we can’t take post surgery.

The Merina has reduced my period 90% and I get that icky brown junky stuff - once in a great while I get enough to wear a pad - but almost always it’s just a tiny bit.

the first 6 months were horrible - but I’d do it again and again - knowing how it was after that first few months.

I have 2 friends - but with the merina - neither had the 6 months of irregularity I had - and both have ZERO period now - I hope when I loose my weight I’ll be the same as them.

Good luck.

Sounds like a good choice. Will definitely talk about it with my ObGyn. Thanks

Well I gained weight with the depo (20 pds)....... It affects everyone differently...something with less hormones but effective is the best choice. I don't have to worry about that because my hubby got clipped... So I am happily off of birth control and my pds last only 3 days... :-)

Good luck!

Think about an IUD there ones with hormones Mirena and ones without hormones Periguard. Isn't it better to not put man made hormones in your body?

I've been on Depro shots since 1999. No periods for 13 years. I have never had any issues. My Obgyn wants me off to let menopause take its course. Of course I weighed too much to get my tubes tied. Hopefully, I will lose enough to get that done.

I was put on the pill prior to surgery due to Endometriosis and painful cramps with period-I was basically taking 4 ibuprofen every three hours and since I was having surgery and Ibuprofen is a no no she placed me back on the pill. She had no problems with having me on it at 27. She states she has 40 year olds on it. I have never had children so i think I can't have iud. I really didn't want to mess with the shot. I take the actualy bcp everyday and skip placebo. Did have a period for about 14 days after surgery and prior to surgery had just gotten over period but otherwise no problems and NO cramps...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
