Lunasa - I'm so very sorry your airplane trip was so horrible. :( Don't worry, sweetheart...things will be getting much better very soon! I can't remember...where do you live? How long will you stay in Florida?

Jennifur-- I'm missing you! Hope you're having fun in Myrtle Beach!!

Hi everybody... I'm checkin in from florida now.. after a S**t journey over...

Why? Because I experienced quite a low point on my travels..

I was too big for the aerplane seat!!! Well, in saying that I was IN it but let's say I didn't need a belt to KEEP me in it... It was an emergency exit row & the tray tables were in the armrest which meant the seat was narrower & the armrest didn't go uo... IT SUCKED! I was really upset..

It was a 6 & half hour flight & I was so uncomfortable for every second of it.. I just kept thinking how did it get like this!!

Only for I'm BOOKED to have this surgery I think I would have been totally devastated & in despair, the thought of it coming to an end kept me from actually breaking down.

Lunasa,

The airplane thing DOES suck!!! My hubby and I went on a trip to China last February...14 hours for the longest leg, plus a 2 hour, 5 hour and another 2 hour leg. The nice lady on the long flight over told me to keep the belt extender so I didn't have to ask for another for the rest of the trip...PHEW...

My hubby just got back from a business trip to San Diego and the skinny little stewardess on the flight back gave him a hard time...He had asked for an emergency exit row seat and they gave him one. When he got on the plane, he discreetly asked for a belt extender. When the stewardess brought it to him, she said something to the effect of "oh, you can't sit on this row if you use a belt extender. maybe that will give you some incentive to lose weight. you'll have to move to a different seat." Well, the plane was packed and without even being asked, a guy two rows back volunteered. The woman wasn't even discreet enough to try and keep the conversation private. My hubby isn't usually left speechless, but this time he was...totally out of character, he just moved to a different seat and kept his mouth shut for the rest of the flight. Nice, Huh?? Like he didn't KNOW he had a weight problem...DUHHHHHH!!!!!!

Well, all that to say...I can sympathize...when you stand up, it feels like your butt and hips are forever molded to the shape of the 17 1/2 inch wide seat...

After the band...NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I went to JCPenney today and got the JCPenney version of the Magic Bullet and it is on sale at least through Saturday night (4-7) for $29.99. Just tried it and it works great. It has all the same stuff as the magic bullet, strainer, lids, extra cups, etc...

I am thinking about going back and getting one for work!

Hello everyone... I'm checking in after a nice day off... we have dbfs kids now... so what that means ALL FOUR of the boys are home (5) including dbf.......... the three older ones were really curious as to why I wasn't eating the same thing for dinner as them and they wanted to know

WHY they couldn't drink my LC shakes or eat my SF popsicles! LOL

I really didn't want the 3 older boys knowing I was having weight loss surgery because it will go right home to their mother and their ENTIRE town... (small town, very gossipy, very nosey) I didn't feel like being the Sunday gossip. They do know I'm on a diet, and already asked their mom if I could have her old bike.... LOL... I love those boys! They mean well.... and their mom and her new husband, dbf and I all get along and even sit together at games and programs... (its the whole united front thing) anyway dbf used to be the fire chief before they divorced... soooo you can imagine how the tongues started wagging when I entered the picture.... Blended Families... ohhhh I could tell ya some stories! LOL

I did have a half can of green Beans tonight with my tuna. Thursday I have to go full fledge liquid per my doc.... OH and the other thing I have given up is my Diet Dr. Pepper........... I have not even tasted it once this entire week....... (it really IS amazing what my willpower can do, once motivated) and I have to tell you all... I would not be this strong had I not found LBT...... sometimes I come here when my stomach is turning over from being hungry... I read about others in the same situation or go browse the pics and I know that I am on the right path. THANK YOU.

:(Thank You Lovely Ladies!!!! :girl_hug:

Your ever extending encouragement is so much appreciated!

I'll try bed bath & beyond for the magic bullet...I thought it was exclusively Wal Mart..

Panda.. (my Brother used to call me that when we were young!)..thanks for the link.. I'll check that out too.

I live in Co Clare in Ireland... I'm origanally from Dublin, but a country girl at heart. It's really beautiful...even if I do say so myself!!:)

I'm in Florida until next Thursday.

I start my pre op diet tomorrow!

Luckily my clinic gave me my shakes etc to take with me, so I don't have to worry about going out on a Protein hunting expedition while here!

I'm trying to build myself up to telling my mother about this over the next few days...I'm looking for the right moment as I don't want to burden her with any more worries. She just lost her own mother & another good friend of hers is dying of cancer (sudden diagnosis)... I really don't want to add this to her list of woes but as my sister rightly suggests, mam would rather know before the fact than after. She'll support me I know, I just feel a bit guilty & selfish throwing this into the mix of everything else she's dealing with...

I guess these are the situations we have to face as we approach our dates!

I am really looking forward to a new pace in culinary life!!:nervous :nervous

Thank You all again...xx

As for that flight attendant mouthing off at your husband...I would have been so mortified & offended.. WHAT WOULD I DO? I would have cried..

my sister (who was with me ) would have KILLED her!! COW!

OH.. and I wanted to add.. I bought the Walmart knock off version of the magic bullet for $9.97, and broke it on the second use... got so ticked I just threw it in the trash.. I should of taken it back but I had already thrown away the box... and Panda it was the ice that did it!

Christy: I don't know what I would of done had I been in your hubbys place on that airline!

Lunasa: Don't get down about your travel woes.... you are on your way to sitting cross legged indian style in those seats!

I know I'm missing some newly banded/scheduled people, I will check in tomorrow and get everyone added.

I'm was also glad to get the reports of Cred and others banded today.

Terri: thanks for posting about those breathing exercises.. Remind me in 21 days! OK

Sara: I love Cadbury Eggs..... but I think that movie Happy Feet is PERFECT for your Easter present :(

OHHHHHHH and the Isopure was delivered today........ OH LORD I'm afraid to try it now, and I have 24 bottles of the stuff! LOL

Laura: the expresso ideas sounds yummy........ I would mention a GREAT BASE to use (if your stores still carry it) is the HOOD Calorie Countdown Dair beverage ... used to be called Carb Countdown, but they changed it to go along with all that 100 calorie packaging people are doing...

For me I can NOT tolerate Soy.. YUCK...... if you are lucky enough to find it, buy a carton and try your Protein in them.

Hi All,

It seems to get hectic right before a set date. My surgery is on wednesday and I finally got the final tests done and should be goood to go. I had to postpone in feb because I had double pneumonia. That was no fun. Well my DIL is due on the 15th of the month, which is also my anniversary(can't forget that date) She went to the Dr and they might induce labor on weds. Hmmmm Well her blood pressure is becoming an issue. So today I am thinking what else.....Well OTR or as they say here AF. I still have to write a letter to my Dr stating that I understand about WLS and the risks and so forth. Anyway needed to talk, I try to get here and all I have had time to do is read a little and by the time I catch up it is time to hit it.

Tracy ,By the way back to basics makes a model similar to the magic bullet I have had mine for over a year and works great.

Everyone have a great night...

Jo---is this going to be your first grandchild? They are such fun!!! We have Granddaughters 6,5,&2-and Grandsons 7 & 1. And 1 daughter who has been married now almost 2 years, and they have not started yet. Do they know what your DIL is having? How exciting!!! And the baby will be small enough, you will have no problem lifting and holding, and being the Grandma!!!

Unless I misunderstood (which it wouldn't be the first time!!!) what Tracy mentioned about the blender thing she bought, I thought she said it was the kind you stick down in the glass, and blend---the stick, hand held mixer kind. I might have missed another post where she bought the other kind, on the idea of the Magic Bullet.

We have a friend who owns a restaurant, and she ordered us a bar blender. They are made to blend iced drinks---it is not real modern, nor fancy, but it goes forever, and chops anything!!! I used to use it, then pour it through one of the fine wire type of strainers, seldom caught anything---it pulverized it!

So any last minute jitters before your surgery???

Hi Kat,

No actually this will be my seventh and I have one more going to arrive in june. I was a little concerned that I would not be able to hold her. She named her Jacklyn Faith in december. One of my Grandsons likes to squeeze me and I volunteer at my Grandson who lives with me at his kindergarten class and they all love to hug.

Those blender things look so cool in the infermercials but never seem to work like that once you get it home.

Jitters Yeeeeeeeeeesssssssss , well actually not yet it probably won't kick in until tues and then I might get some.

Have a superfantastic weekend (one of my grandsons favorite words)

lunasa - I know what it is like to get into those airplane seats and struggle to clip the stupid seatbelt closed. It is very uncomfortable pulling a tray table down, and finding it can't be level because of my stomach. I'm with you on not going crazy, because the surgery has given me hope.

Ahhh then you are old hat at all the Granny fun!!! Me too!

Well if you need someone to talk to when the nerves hit, give me a holler. If you want I can PM you my #.

One of my main goals, of losing this weight is my grandkids. If I lose it now, my younger grandbabies, will never remember me as a fat Granny!!! Now if my 2 year old granddaughter, would quit poking my belly fat and calling it a "bubble" I'd be ok!!!

How funny, my youngest granddaughter who turned 2 in nov does that to me and always tries to lift my shirt and says "baby" because of her Aunt being pregnant. I tried running after her, and she is fast. I thought I needed to take care of this now. Kids are too funny !!

Hey Kat, thanks for listening , I enjoyed talking with you !!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
