Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Oh yeah Tracy, honestly... I read it somewhere on the forums, and I try it, and it works.. I eat more calories than normal 2 days a week, to keep my body guessing. I average 800-1,200.. and 2 days a week I eat around 1,800 (normally an 'indulge' day and that's how I get it so high).

It's working for me, if my weight loss is any indication. I'm trying to avoid plateaus.

The news said my city "close 2nd" for top tornado-prone cities. 2nd to Oklahoma City. I'm really surprised, we've been in a drought and when I use to live here, we had tornadoes all the time (love it).. since we moved back here, I missed the storms.. and low and behold NO MORE STORMS. Anyway, so when I heard that this morning, I was definitely surprised.. must not be any tornadoes anywhere lately.

I was looking online to see where this study is, and I found old ones, where our city was actually #1 for a while. So where are they?!

I just cleaned my office, and first time in a long time- took one of my speedy diet pills. The ephedrine is good for opening up bronchial passages, so I hoped it'd help me breathe better.

My office looks great now, it's been so cluttered with crap. Still cluttered with crap, but now it's off to the side hehe.

Wish we could all go for lunch, would be nice :)

I most definitely notice my restriction slowly going away. It makes me panic that I stretched or slipped, etc. I'm trying not to be a worry wart. I've lost a lot of weight since my fill, so I'll assume that's it. I was able to eat 1/2 of a piece of french toast.. and later, 1/2 of a biscuit with ham (bottom bun, no top). I have not been able to eat ANY bread for like a month.. one teeny bite would kill me.. and now I can eat this much, scares me. I did spit up some of the biscuit with ham, but I ate one bite more than I should have.. I felt the stuffed feeling, but it was so nummy.

Ok, phew! Can sit a sec & catch my breath. My "cleaning" is done & the in-laws just called & there about 30 minutes out! It wasn't really "cleaning" per se... more "the illusion" of clean! LOL! I said that once -- a long, long time ago (18 years, maybe?) -- to DH when some folks were coming over... I said, "We don't have to actually CLEAN, we just have to give it the ILLUSION of clean." About 5 mins later, I walk back into the room & he's still just sitting there, not doing anything. I'm like "WTF?" and he says to me, "This is just the ILLUSION of me not helping!" Ha ha ha! We still use that line all the time!

DH went back to the eye place (hose R Us) to get his contact Rx. I told him, under NO circumstances, is he to buy his contacts there. Get the Rx, and I will price shop. He was adament, saying he'll just buy 1 month and then get the Rx. I said NO!

So, the price they had for his brand/blah blah was $80 per 3 months.

I found them at 1800contacts for $160 for the year, plus free shipping, a $40 mail in rebate, and -$10 discount code. $110 for 12 months.

I swear every year I'm not going back to our eye place, I know they rip us off, but I don't know where to go for the kind of glasses I like. DH won't go to Wal-Mart's eye center for some reason. He suggested Sears Optical, but last time I walked by, it's such a small hole in the wall, I doubt they have any kind of selection for glasses. At least we have another year to figure it out.

Terri-check out our tickers...same weight same BMI...cool.

I hope I am not shooting myself in the foot by scheduling another fill but I really think I need one. I hate driving in Houston though...UGH.

Everyone have a great evening!

Pam--Love the quote. That's the kind of stuff that helps keep me motivated.

Here's my story for the day. I'm on my way to work when hubby calls and said that Dr. Malley's office called and wanted to know if I wanted to come in earlier than Feb 4th. for a fill. He told them he would have me call back. My last appointment and fill was Dec. 4th.. So I called the office back and they still wanted to know if I wanted to come in early. I kind of hem-hawed and finally admitted to her that I had only lossed about 3 pounds since my last fill. She said than it was time to come in and I told her "NO". I than proceeded to tell her that there was nothing wrong with my band or with my last fill and that I felt I had somewhat good restriction. It's that it was me and not the band that was failing. That is was me that was not being a good girl and that is was me that was kicking my butt for being a bad girl for the month of December. She giggled a little and and than said to not be so hard on myself. I thanked her and still told her I would wait till Feb. to get a fill. That I needed to get my head back on straight before I came running for help that I really didn't need. She was so nice about the whole thing.

So, this is me working on being a good girl this month. I worked out extra hard today and am resolved to get up in the morning to go work out. Sunday will be a walking day since it's supposed to be warmer here. shakes, salads, cottage cheese and fruit. That's me. Oh and Lots of Water and tea.

Had my first day all by myself today and things went real well till I found out that the computer had froze up. So I called my boss and we got it figured out. Finally closed up at 1pm and haven't heard from anyone so I'm guessing all was well with everything. I think I'm gonna like this job.

Everyone have a great evening and if you need to, finish up on your water. I may not have been on here all day but I still watching your water intake.

I don't know how it affects weight loss necessarily,

But tea & coffee are on the 'anti-water' list, not the 'water intake' list. My sheet of paper says don't drink it period. I've heard others say for every 1 glass of tea/coffee, you have to drink 2 glasses of Water. So it counteracts. Just a thought Suzy, like I said.. I don't know if that actually affects what we're drinking water for.. I would guess it does just since my doc says NO to it. And kettle, pot.. I drink tea all the time. Just something to think about if you're trying to kick it in gear!

WOW that is a switch, usually Malley's office is turning people away.. I guess the new skinny NP is freeing up the good dr!

I did the right thing by getting an unfill, I have not Pb'd all day, and I really haven't been hungry either........

We have no kids and the dh is feeling neglected watching tv by himself.. he's already hinted for sex... (WOW what a difference an enagment/marriage makes) I told him.. GET OFF I'M SICK! now I feel a tad guilty.............. kinda LOL

Coffee counts!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a recent coffee convert (thanks to all the Starbucks chatter here and the fact that Splenda ROCKS!). I've always heard that you can't count coffee in your daily water intake, but decided to check it out.

Welllll seems from what I'm finding - you CAN!!!

Does coffee count towards my daily Fluid needs?

Yes. All fluids count--plain water, juice, Soup, watermelon--and even coffee. The rumor that coffee dehydrates people lacks scientific support.

and....

The good news is that you can now count tea and coffee as part of your intake. Previously it was thought they acted like diuretics, encouraging the body to get rid of fluid. We now know this isn’t true, and you can drink tea and coffee as part of your 2.5 litres. And there is nothing like a cup of tea to give you a lift.

My only note of caution is that large amounts of caffeine can reduce the amount of Calcium we absorb from our food; the tannins in tea have a similarly negative effect on Iron absorption.

and even from the MayoClinic:

.......Even beer, wine and caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea or soda can contribute, but these should not be a major portion of your daily total fluid intake. Water is one of your best bets because it's calorie-free, inexpensive and readily available.

Hope this helps out a little.

On one of the web pages they were talking about people drinking coffee before they went to work out.

One recent finding, as irresponsible as it may be, that caffeine increases the body's fat-burning potential has many people loading up on coffee before going to the gym. This finding may hold some degree of truth in it, but caffeine is, in essence, a diuretic, and diuretics dehydrate.

Here is more about fluids.

Do you think water is yucky? Drinking other fluids will certainly help hydrate your body, but the extra calories, sugar, additives and whatever else aren't what you need. Try a slice of lemon or lime in the glass, or if you really think you hate water, try a flavored water. Just make sure you read the labels.

Hi Violets!

Well, it looks like we have another storm headed our way--not what I would have chosen for our weekend off, but since no one ask me, guess it does not matter!!

TracyKS---love the new pic! I have been divorced from my DD's father for 24 years, and he lives with one of my former best friends, and he still drunk calls me, and sends me messages through the daughter! "Leaving me was the biggest mistake in his life" is his usual line.....um excuse me, I packed your shit and it was waiting for you on the porch, after you took your girlfriend and newborn son home from the hospital....you did not leave willingly you were tossed!! And it was NOT the worst mistake of MY life!!!

Yep Laura---there are a few from my past that still make my heart flip flop----he is NOT one of them!!! Ironically neither of my former husbands is on that list!!

One was a cheater----Two was an abuser----nope I don't miss them!!

Today we worked on a rental, actually winterized it in preparation of doing some work on it, going to have it empty for a month or so, so it needed the Water drained etc. so it does not freeze. The kid that was in it, is a friends son----he left some nice messes----not sure how to handle it, and preserve the friendship....any suggestions? I am talking broken window, greasy messes on brand new carpet (he is a mechanic)....knobs gone on the washing machine (?), and a broken closet door. Pretty bad considering he only lived there for 4-5 months! He is moving in with his girlfriend.

Then we moved cows, so we can prepare to brand---start culling out the ones needing it---if the weather holds we may do it this weekend! Anyone wanna help?!

We went to Breakfast before getting started, it is such a waste for me, I just cannot eat much at all that early in the morning. Oh well I did ok! Ate a side of bacon!

This afternoon we went to see P.S. I love you. Man I wish I had Hillary Swanks abs!!! Was a chick flick for sure!!! I was not wanting something I needed to seriously follow! We got a medium popcorn, and shared, and still did not eat it all. We raised the center arm, and just snuggled, and as long as he held my hand--I could not snack on the popcorn!!!

Hit Walmart for some things we needed here at home, and here we are!

Tomorrow night is Rick's company Winter Party. I usually have a good time, but his secretary and a couple of the guys and their wives we usually sit with, none of them will be there----not sure what it will be like! His secretary's husband drew out to go to White Sands, and have the once in a lifetime hunt for Oryx. My SIL 2B did that a couple of years ago, the oryx he shot, had horns like 38.25 inches long! It had to be hung way down the wall for the horns to clear!! Kinsey named the head---I cannot remember what though! When they first hung it, she walked around and looked on the other side of the wall for the rest of it!

Rick and I were talking about the Violet trip at breakfast---I am going to go and see a friend who is a travel agent, and see if she can find out if I am going to have a problem, and if so, then will make the name change. NM just instituted all kinds of new requirements to get a license so it could be interesting!!

Well I am going to go check my email, and surf for a bit---y'all take care and will check on ya in the morning!

(((hugs)))

Kat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
