Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Sitting here in front of the fire trying to stay warm. Looking out at all the ice we got. Even as much as we got I think we got more rain but everything is frozen and tree branches are hanging low. As far as I know Tracy is getting it worse than we are.

Did manage to get out this morning to take my sister to her Doctor's appointment. We went to Breakfast and than to Hobby Lobby. Roads were all clear and no accidents around here. That's probably due to the fact that they cancelled school for most of the state today.

Laura, my sister had that test done and cussed us out when she came out from having it done. She was mad that we didn't tell her what they were going to do. She did say that no matter how bad it was that she was sure glad she got it done. Do try to talk to your doctor about it. He will ease your nervousness about it.

Michelle. Congrats on the SV. You Go Girl.

Terry, if you need a shoulder to cry on or whine to, or out and out bi#*h to---call me anytime! Sometimes it is easier to do with someone who cares about you, yet is a bit distant from the goings on in your life.

I had a neighbor once, and they lost their 2 year old son to menengitis. He would come over usually drunk---and cry and talk about Parker for hours. He told me one 'morning after' that he had no one else to talk to. His wife would not listen, she was unable to talk about it yet, and his Mom would, but she hurt from losing Parker, and then hurt worse knowing he was hurting so bad. He said us not being strangers, but not really involved was what pulled him through some nights. Poor guy! He eventually divorced, and remarried, and had 4 more sons.

I never encountered it until my son went through some problems, and I had no one I felt I could turn to. That was not also thrown by his actions at the time, or some one who would not judge him his entire life for a lapse in judgement at that time. So if you need a "someone" please know, day or night, I am only a phone call away from commiserating with you!

Laura I agree that it seems an awfully invasive way to begin---which is one of the first questions I would ask him-then if nothing else see a renal Dr.---he should be able to pin point where the kidney is and if it would be an issue. IMHO. Ultrasound, even the internal is not a big deal. I was at my heaviest when I had my bout with cancer, and a standard ultrasound was useless, I had way too much belly flab to see anything, so I had many vaginal ultrasounds. A little uncomfy mentally---but not physically. And WOW what a size change!

It spit snow off and on all day, nothing sticking, just keeping everything damp, so it can freeze tonight!!

Yea, Michelles scale is moving, maybe mine will too! I have behaved very well today---no urges to do otherwise! Went to lunch with my folks, but I shared lunch with Kinsey, we had chicken and a salad...she had the fries, and the corn on the cob, and the dinner roll cjust sat there!!! She thinks sharing with me is such fun! She holds up a bite of something, say a cucumber and asks me if I want it before she eats it! I know being around me now, she is learning much better eating habits than I showed her Mom at that age. I made sure she ate a healthy diet, but didn't do so myself!!!

Ms Jenn.....Haydee....Panda.....Lunasa.....where are y'all at? Miss you! Might have to call in the flying Monkeys!!! bwahahahaha!!!!

Well I am off to cook some hamburger, it is tacos tonight. I decided that sounded good and easy---and Rick always loves them especially if I will fry him flour shells for his!!! I used to eat them too---and could eat 2-3 of them---the small flour tortillas, not the foot wide ones!!! Now I do one of the corn tortilla taco shells, and am good! But it is a lot of flavor in not a lot of food---which is the best of both for me!!!

So I better get cooking and chopping, and shredding---did I say easy??????

LMAO--------------at myself!!!

Talking to Laura about internal ultrasounds----and then my mind shifted gears to thinking about her size 14 tops---and I mentioned a size change----all in one sentence about internal US's!!! No the size of the ultrasound wand did not change----!!!!

Hello violets-

Michelle-congrats on the SV!!!

Laura-yay you for the 14 shirts! That is awesome!

Kat-the taco talk made me crave tacos...do you deliver :)

Terri-sorry to hear that you are having a crappy time. We are here for you sista!

Pamela-where are you?

Jenn????? why so quiet?

Tracy, Suzie, Judy and all my other midwest & northern violets...stay cozy in that frighteningly cold weather!

Well, the moving date is set for the day after Christmas! So, that mean the night of christmas, the tree has to come down. I hate that part cause I love to sit and stare at the tree. A childhood habit I never outgrew and never plan on outgrowing! So much to pack, but at least I will have the time since I am off for the holidays. I am looking for ward to it though!

I go to the dr tomorrow to get blood drawn to check to see if my cholesterol pills he gave m are doing what they should...wish me luck cause i hate needles with a passion.

Well, time to wind things down and get ready to watch the biggest loser. Have great night everyone!

((Terry)) I’m so sorry that your weekend was so miserable.

((Jennifer)) Hugs and prayers are coming your way as well.

Laura, a 14 blouse! You go, girl!

Judy, we’re going on Royal Caribbean and the ship is Sovereign of the Seas. Please keep your fingers crossed for us as it looks like Tropical Storm Olga may be in the Bahamas the same time we are. Who ever heard of a tropical storm in December??? Life’s such an adventure, isn’t it???

Having a small pity party here @ my house this evening. My husband could tell that I was feeling down and wondered why. My only answer was that I was a woman. I’m tired of being so very tight. I almost PB’ed on a fried egg this morning, and nothing tastes good this week. I truly am glad to have lost the weight so I just need to kick start my backside to get rid of my stinkin’ thinkin’.

Nuff said on that subject!

Michelle, of course, you only had three bags when you got back from shopping…you were buying little things for the stocking, right? 70+ pounds! WWWWOWWWW!!!

Temperature update: 75 in Charleston today, beautiful, with clear blue skies and puffy clouds.

Tracy, moving back into a house. Good for you! But I know how you feel about taking down the tree on Christmas evening. But a house!!! The bonus for your work.

Night all,

Cindy

Evening, Violets..

Just got out of the hot tub. It's cold and windy out, but the tub is 103. Did all my toning exercises and then just laid there and looked at the stars. I do love that thing!!

Cindy... RC is what we always take. Sovereign is the oldest ship, I believe and will be retired soon. We love the Mariner and will be on her again next October. This Feb. we are going on Celebrity for the first time. It's supposed to be kind of an upscale RC. We should be getting our documents next month. Only 74 more days til we cruise!

Terry and Jennifer....... HUGS to you both. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Ethan will be here at 8 so I better get headed to bed. My Pistons won tonight, so I'm content. And dress rehearsal went well. Now hopefully choir will go as well tomorrow night.

Everyone sleep well..

Patience, Trust, Purple Power, WWJD??!!

Oh.. forgot to mention... the elliptical gets delivered tomorrow around noon! Hope the Bobster and I can get it up the stairs! The workout card came today. 24 workouts on a chip you put in the machine. I'm excited to see how that works.

Now I'm outta here......... Nighters!!

Our elliptical has 8 preset workouts, then the expansion slot for additional workouts, that you can buy. You can buy the card alone, or along with a DVD, that is of a trail or walking path to coordinate with the level of workout! We have never gone beyond the pre programmed! There are half of them that are 20 minute workouts, then the rest of them are 30 minute programs. We love it! We try to increase our speed when we conquer a program. Then we do free weights as well---it is a nice workout, not too strenuous to burn me out!

I am a bit concerned, I suddenly have much stronger restriction. I am hoping it is residual swelling from the stress of Rick's icy adventure. Tonight, I could not even eat half of one taco. I'd say 4-5 little bites. I have no pain, I am just full VERY quickly. It has been over a year since I had a fill, so I cannot imagine it is changing!! Will just watch and see how it goes.

Cindy, that is why I really seem to go for strong flavors since banding, I want a lot of taste, since I eat so much less, more bang for my buck!!! Tacos always work---even if it is a bite or 2!!

TracyK--shoulda come on by, I'd have fixed you a taco, or shared mine!! Actually Kinsey shared mine. She was here late tonight, her Mommy went to the memorial service for the friends baby. He lived several days, but at 1 lb 2oz, there really was no hope. She said it was incredibly sad...she come in and wanted to hold and hug Kinsey who just wanted to play!

Rick and I had a serious discussion tonight about getting another dog. One minute I am so excited, I want to run to the shelter right now. The next I stall, not wanting one at all!!! I had several deer in the yard again today, I stood Kinsey on the kitchen counter, and we stood there, and watched them for the longest time. She decided she wanted to be able to turn her ears like that!! Dog would scare away my deer. Deer eat the grass, do not have to be fed! Or given shots, or worm medication.....and when something happens to one of them, it is sad, but does not break my heart!

Well I am off to bed, 5:00 comes early!!!

See you tomorrow----getting a bit worried for my sisters here.....something feels "off".

(((hugs)))

Kat

Denise---how is the little Mommy to be? How many Christmas presents have you bought the baby? LOL--I am not laughing at you, I was such a fanatic when Manda had Kinsey, it was not funny!

Hi Kat - The little mommy is sick sick sick. She's lost 19 lbs since she found out she was pregnant - she's now 16 weeks, so I hope that it tapers off soon. Baby is doing great...we actually saw it on the ultrasound today, but the doc has an older ultrasound so they can't tell what the sex is. She goes in on January 8th to be measured/dated and will hopefully find out then.

Grandma is pathetic....yes, I've bought this unborn child Christmas presents...LOTS and LOTS of them...I'm going to be so broke when this baby is born LOL

Good Morning, Violets..

I'm up early to be ready when Ethan comes. The Bobster is out with Jetta the garage dog right now. It got icy last night, but nothing like the ice storm other states got. We got just a glaze.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Cindy, are you all packed for your cruise?? I always take my motion sickness meds the day before we cruise and then I'm good when the ship starts rockin'! Last cruise was an extremely smooth one, though. Hope yours is too!

Gotta go get some breakfast..

TTFN...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
