I'm with you Jennifur, I am soooooooooo far away.

Just got to keep chugging along. Speakin of chugging, I think I'm going to change over to liquid diet during the day and then a normal dinner. I can't seem to get ANYTHING and I do mean ANYTHING through before 5pm. I tried the hot tea trick for the first time (before having stuck like the coffee incident yesterday), and it didn't help. Maybe this is suppose to be my TOM and I'm really tight or somethin. I have a Migraine right now :) I'm afraid to take my migraine meds, in case they get stuck, last thing I need is PBing with a throbbing head. I'm not hungry. That's nice. This is normally when I'm wanting to ravage the kitchen.

SOMEONE JUST PICKED UP OUR COUCH! WOOOHOOO.

I put it on Craigslist, small world.. the person who responded was someone I went to church with when I was a kid.. she sent her husband to come get it.. someone else I went to church with! They got it out of here relatively easy (it took crafty techniques to get it IN the room, so same to get it out)..I danced around in the empty room because now I can finally set up a nice guest room!!!

Anyone want to come to Alabama??

Panda~These are for you!!!!! Congrats!

I love love love the thread getting to know you. What fun it is! Last night I was preparing for my online class and I had to take a personality inventory at Welcome To Kingdomality. It is free and pretty cool. Short survey! I think it was Gina who said she likes to do surveys online, so I thought I'd share it w/ you. I was a Dreamer/Minstrel!!! I don't know what other categories there are...so if we take the quiz, post your "personality type" so we can see! I also have another link for a Myers/Brigg personality test, but that is a bit more labor intensive.

Gonna go do some work! I just got in after a 11 hour day, and have more work to look forward too!

Laura - yup that's me... chugging along. I did liquids today and probably blew it, we went to Red Robin for dinner, i got a salad with chicken and ate it all, in 2 serving but i ate it.. and 2 glasses of wine. I did drink all my Water and had my 2 shakes today. I just drank a cup of "poopin tea" LOL My last bag.

Laura - glad that couch is gone, and you got to see people from the past... OH , and yes i'll take some of your extra.

dbf and I had a very long chat today and we ended up laughing about me when he asked if i was going to have mine done... he loves them but knows that has always been one of my complaints.

well off to bed. going to get up and out early

Ok, I've stuck with my calorie counting all week just like I said I would! Yea me! Today was 862 calories. I was trying to stay low because of my food porn yesterday. I am really, really liking that Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast! I can't believe how it fills me up and stays with me so well! I only wish it had more protein....but it does have good Fiber, so I guess that's ok.

I have a new favorite food: Eggplant Parmesan. Is it loaded with fat?? It sure is delicious!!!

Hey!

Pam, I too am working... just finished up, actually, but can't work on legal editing for hours & hours and then go straight to bed... my head keeps working & I end up either not sleeping or editing in my sleep, neither of which is good! So I'm here trying to decompress...

I took the Kingdomality quiz... I'm a Shepherd... here's what it said about me:

y.gifour distinct personality, The Shepherd is to tend to your human flock. You understand the needs of those for whom you are responsible. Shepherds are vigilant and reliable. You realize your obligation and commitment to the well being of those entrusted to your care. Shepherds are very dependable. You engender a feeling of comfort and stability to those within your charge. On the positive side, Shepherds can be empathic, caring, understanding, practical and realistic. On the negative side, you may be manipulative, close-minded and sentimentally rigid. Interestingly, your preference is just as applicable in today's corporate kingdoms.

I'd say that I'd agree w/that!

Ok, it's late & I have another Loooooong day tomorrow... it's getting closer & closer to Sunday when my guests arrive... then Monday, when we all go up to the Lake... the house is coming together... loaded up the guest bedroom tonight & it looks good if I do say so myself... Laura, you'll love having a guest room!... now just some basic tidying & last-minute stuff... Oh yeah... and ALL the grocery shopping AND cooking -- how could I forget?? And so it goes...

I am SO going to relax in the woods next week! Phew!!

Nighty-Night, Vi's! :bored

Hi all, I made it home safe & sound! Dad got a good report---and I got some recommendations from his Dr. for both an endocrinologist, and a surgeon. Plus encouraging words from his Dr. as well. This is his surgeon that did the carotids.

I only have one sibling, my brother who is handicapped...so for many years now, when Dad has had heart issues I have been the one to take him. He had his first bypass when I was pregnant with Manda who will be 26 next month...so it has been awhile. About 12 years ago, he was sent to a new Dr. as his was changing practices...so he has seen this young Dr. from Tennessee who thinks my Dad hangs the moon! He tells my Dad to lose 10 pounds, before he sees my Dad again, the weight is gone. He tells him to exercise, and he does---he uses my Dads case in all his lectures, he tells us. He come to our area to fly fish, and went by to see my Dad!!! He has sat and told us stories of his med school days, this guy has just endeared himself to our family. So today even though we are not seeing him he walks through the waiting room, and freaks out that we are there. He stops and checks out Dads incisions and asks him all kinds of questions. At one point I added a comment to something Dad had said, and he turned and looked at me, and stood straight up--in the waiting room full of people-- and says "Holy Smoked Mackeral girl, you have lost a lot of weight!" I was laughing so hard at the holy smoked mackeral---I didn't really respond, but he was telling me I was going to be so glad I did it, it was wonderful...on and on!!! I have heard Holy Smoke, and Holy Mackeral---but Holy Smoked Mackeral??? Only Dr. Harding!

So we took Kinsey to Albq. with us today, and they are in the middle of a huge hot air balloon fiesta this week, she was so excited!!! It was very cool, driving down the road, with huge hot air balloons everywhere. We stopped and paid 6 bucks apeiece just to walk through them for an hour, so she could see! Was fun!

TracyK---I will offer another possible help for your mouth ulcers. My DD had them bad, she is allergic to most metal, and had braces on her teeth---so you can imagine her inner mouth. They had us get liquid Benadryl, and liquid like Kaopectate, or Mylanta...and mix it half and half. It separates quickly just like oil & Water. You can swish and gargle and spit, or swallow, either one. The benadryl will shrink the ulcer, and the chalky consistency of the other will allow the benadryl to stick to the ulcer. It helped her A LOT!!!!

Kelly---hoping Moms surgery went well---will check in with you!

Going to wait to do all the questionairres tomorrow.

Not sure what my problem was today, I just couldn't eat. I wasn't hurting type of stuck---just felt VERY full VERY fast, and it lasted for hours on end! I did not drink like I should, but hate to when I am driving long distances between places!!!

Yes I saw in my email where losingjusme is back, I am glad...we do all need support...hope she feels the love!

Pamela just be a teacher I need it!!!

The questions are going to be fun! Will try to get to it tomorrow too. I didn't sleep well last night, and had to be up early this morning, and am about ready to call it a night! This not laying on my back business reaally sucks!

Laura, yay the couch is history, how did Sis take that news??

Michelle, that is the one I will likely fail!!!

All these baby medicines being recalled has me feeling lucky our youngest are ok!

Well girls, I am going to finish checking my mail, and head off to bed, 5:30 comes early!!!

Talk to ya tomorrow!!

Kat

Morning gals

I am doing a quick check in. getting up and going this am. getting a few things done today.

Terry - I was cracking up when I saw the eggplant parm. Did you try it after everyone asking how it tasted. I love that stuff. It is a pia to make but you can bake it instead of frying it - use low fat cheese. blah blah blah. or you can cook in a pan in olive oil. Eggplant in a whole only has 25-50 cals, but you have to coat it in eggs and the cheese and it has good Protein too!

Ok ladies, I'm back down to where I was last week, and that is after some wine. If i can just get down to 209-210 at noon with jeans by tuesday for my appt I would be so happy. That would be a 4lb loss in a month and would show my dr i'm working but need a fill. I don't want him to have any reason to not give me one. He is not they type you can walk in and say i need a fill and actually get one.

 Good morning Violets!!! OK, so here is what I did to make the scale start moving the way it is...pretty simple actually. I changed from having my "biggest" meal to lunch instead of dinner. And for dinner I just have either a Protein Shake or Soup. I promise, that is all I changed and it is working like a charm!! At first it was difficult for me because I love love love to eat in the evening, but once I saw the results it handed me, I think I will stick to it for a while. Oh, and one more thing....my Fluid pills are very mild and I only take them 2 or 3 times a week, so I have started taking them when I get home from work at 5 PM. By the time I go to bed around 9 I have PP'd all I m going to and it doesn't wake me up at night to go. I thought I would share what I am doing in case some of you wanted to try it. It is very hard having to cook for dh and dd and not eat what they are, but, I had to do something to get to onederland, and it worked!! Now I am still doing it to be able to get as far away from 2something as I can!!

Kat-that is a good idea too. Macys dr has prescribed that mixture for her before for something she had wrong. (can't remember what it was, but it was not ulcers) What is Kinsey gonna be for halloween?

Laura-I had the bubble PB before too. Pretty gross but kinda awesome looking...I thought WTF?

Terri-cool thread you thought of!! I love it!

Judy-I do not have the self discipline to only get on the scales once a week. The only way I could pull it off is have someone take my scales and take my debit card so I won't go buy new ones. :)

Tracy-sorry you had a bad eating day yesterday....you are goin to be 20something in no time!!

TGIF.....everyone have a great day!

Good Morning! I am up and drinking coffee in my jammies....... the scale did bounce UP two pounds but I can live with it, because I did not even have ONE SIP of water.... so I know it is mainly fluid...... even though I graized on crap... everything was bite size and not the full size versions also offered... it just felt sooooooooooooooooo wrong

The good thing about my band is that it is right here with me ready to help me be good today and tomorrow........

I'm getting ready to go eat some oatmeal and then get Robby in the tub.

Have a great day!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

      2. BabySpoons

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
