Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Haydee!! You're not gonna happen to be on this side of town at lunchtime tomorrow, are you? Josie and I are meeting for lunch if you can come!! :D

Y'know...I was thinking about "weight goals" this morning on the way to work. I don't like setting a goal that says "I will weigh XXX by XXX date. Oh, for me that is just ASKING for failure!! I know my body well enough to know that it will lose the weight however it wants to lose the weight and on its OWN time scale. Even though I seem to be failing at these too :), I prefer to set goals that are more within my control... "I will workout 45 mins per day, 5 days a week", or "I will keep my calories under 1000 for the rest of this month". Although I did kinda think I would/could be at goal by Christmas, I'm already starting to revise that and accept that it could be more like next summer!! OH WELL!! I AM GRATEFUL FOR THAT!!

Haydee - how long are you going to NY for? Maybe I'll come meet you for lunch or something while you are here? I would love to meet a fellow violet.

Terry - I agree. I use to be even harder on myself than I am now, but I have been setting goals and if I don't make it, as long as I'm moving in the right direction I'm happy. that is huge for me. As long as i get there I'm good. Like my -75lb goal. I'll get there ... slow and steady

ohhh I forgot to tell you guys about my salad..

MMMMMM.. after the concert I got room service and ordered a 'Flat Iron Steak Salad'... first time in my life, I ate a salad without dressing on it. It was the best salad I've ever had in my life, and have been craving it since lol.

It was the greens that are very spriggy.. like romaine maybe? Then it had a medium-rare steak sliced up on the side, balsamic roasted yellow and red tomatos, sliced avacado, red onions, red cabbage, and bleu cheese crumbles. Every bite was a little bit of heaven.. they served it with ranch on the side, but like I said.. I ate it without dressing and it was sooo full of flavor. So now my goal is to find somewhere locally that has a salad like this lol. It puts steak-out's sirloin salad to SHAME!

oh, and after posting on the depo provera thread, I looked up these pills my doc gave me to 'regulate' my tom.. and I read it is used for cancer patients who are losing weight.. this medicine increases your fat storage. ARGH! I'm officially going off of these meds today.

OMG Laura that is horrible - you should stop those pills, maybe loosing weight would regulate a bit more but obviously how is that going to happen on those pills??? what a mess!!!!!!!!!!1

off to work, ate Breakfast and went back to bed. i'm getting in a funk and it is not a good one

What a day! Stress out the wa-frickin-zoo!

Made it thru traffic court... you're right, they don't care, just want the check. My trial summary was "Probation before Judgment" which means no points (yay) & a reduced fine + "court costs" (what a racket!). I was a mess all day leading up to it... after it was all over I wanted to cry so bad + eateateat! Too much stress!

Now I have to run out & get dd & take her to her last horse riding lesson @ the barn she's been riding at for 3 years... it's time for her to move on to a more professional stable, etc... but she's sad & I'm -- you guessed it! -- stressed that they'll give her/me a hard time about leaving. I wrote a nice "thank you" note & enclosed a $50 Carrabba's gift card... hope that helps ease the transition!

Did I mention I'm stressed today???????

Ok, now I'm back from the barn... crying daughter & all... sigh...

Stupid woman who runs the place had to pump dd for info on why we were leaving... even though I told dd to just say "I don't know, ask my mom" to any questions anyone might ask... she's only 8... so naturally she spilled everything, the woman took it personally & called me a liar... nice, huh? I didn't tell her about the possibility of going to another barn as I didn't wish to hurt her feelings... trying to keep it all business... silly me! Then dd starts crying as we're leaving & of course it's all mean mom's fault... the woman is hugging her & saying "mommy won't make you go somewhere you don't want to" blah blah... as if I would keep her somewhere where the adults intimidate info out of little kids... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I really can't remember the last time I had a day this stressful... wowza... I think I just may do the bubble bath/adult beverage combo this eve! My prediction is that I'll either cry or fall asleep! or both!

I go for my 3rd fill tomorrow morning... I need it!

Hi all! Ohhhh, I'm so glad to be a part of the food-eating crowd! I ate things like baked potato Soup, bananas/peanut butter, and hummus....good ol' mushies...but nothing got stuck or gave me the tiniest pain whatsoever. YEA!!! I'm FREE!! The hunger was OK....I fought it hard for an hour before lunch. I expect that to get better when I graduate to solids.

I went to the gym tonight!! Yipee!! My back is all better and this girl is back on track! Watch out!

Tracy - Ya'll have a great time this weekend and be careful!!! Sorry about TOM, what a drag. Poor DF prolly needs a break anyway! :(

Michelle - Yes, dear...this too shall pass. Have a glass of wine ...it's all over now. I can't believe that lady did that to your poor little daughter. :) Makes me sad to think of her upset. Some people just haven't a brain in their head.

Everybody is losing weight like crazy! How about we give a shout to those who lost this month!? HOW MUCH DID YOU LOSE DURING AUGUST?? I'll let you know tomorrow when I have my official weigh-in!

Hey, did ya'll know we have the 3rd highest views of any thread on LBT??? #1 is the B&A, #2 is Share Your Scars (I think), and We're #3!! Wooo Hoo Violets!! We soooo rock!

I projectile puked in our truck and it was NOT pretty!!!!!!!! I told DF, whatEVER you do........... DON'T LOOK (The man can pick up guts off the street but puke will have him passed out in seconds)....... I am really suprised it wasn't a chain reaction...... oh lord luckily I had "supplies"....... NO HAMBURGER HELPER!!! and I was even careful to pick out the pasta....... I was hungry and ate too fast obviously tooo much and BAMMO...... yet another bandlesson learned!

Denise: Watchout........ here I come! :(

I will try and sneak a peek in the morning before we pull out.. (gates don't open til noon but I know all the people working it so my plan is to be setting up camp by 11:00 a.m.)

DF is NOT a drinker at all............ compared to him I'm a lush.... so dont worry Terry.. Neither one of us believe in drinking and driving let alone RIDING.....we take our ear plugs when ready for bed.. although this year we we will be in a camper instead of a tent........ I will be catching LOTS of grief but I don't care! AC and coffee in the am!

Have a great evening............ there is no friggen way those jeans will fit by tomorrow with TOM here, but 2 weeks and they will be MINE!

I went to the Dr. today and gained one pound in August. I didn't like it, I really wanted to lose 12 pounds by her scale in the month of August to lose 100 pounds in a year. It was interesting what Terri said about goal setting. I am not real good with goal setting, but when I do I need to make it within my control and ability. I went to a class once and they talked about goals in general and said that people 85% of the time set goals that are not within your reach. Interesting..... The Dr. today said that it isn't a race and I am doing just fine, but it is still sort of frustrating....SO very long story short I got another fill of .5 cc's. I hope it works. I also like the card that Terri showed.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
