Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good Thursday morning, Violets...

I feel *much* better today! I crawled into be @ 7pm, dh & ds brought me 2 cups of hot tea, then I crashed by 9... woke up @ 7... must've needed the sleep! Only good thing from yesterday is that the scale was down 3 lbs... I know it's not "real" weight, but still...

I certainly hope I've learned my lesson! Wowza!

Am drinking only pro shakes, sugar-free popsicles, hot tea & Water today... tomorrow, also, probably.

My in-laws arrive tomorrow for the weekend... gotta go unearth the guest bedroom!

Oh.......... I have great benefits and a cushy job for my town... but man sometimes it is so HARD........ notice the shelves behind me in my 232 pic.. that wall is the wall we share. there is an adjoining door within that wall that I promptly put 2 TALL filing cabinets in front of to block off the door........... that is the weak spot in our wall and that is where she was standing...... she apparantly gave the other two gals voicemail lectures on "integrity in the workplace". THE STORIES I COULD TELL would totally blow your mind about nuns......... first and foremost they are HUMAN.... highly highly educated but no "street" skills or "real world" management skills............... I am still living down, being a non catholic, divorced, and unwed mother.............

Too funny, Tracy! She *is* a nun, after all... what else does she have to do for fun??

You guys definitely have more restriction than me.

The only thing I can't get down on a regular basis (no matter what time of day) is hamburgers.. with or without the bun.. ground beef patties just don't like me.

Some things I can have one day, but the next it won't work, or early morning/late at night they won't go down, etc..

-Hot dogs (with or without the bun)

-bagels

-toast

-sandwhich of any kind

-mac&cheese

-sausage

Hmmm that's a lot of carbs my band doesn't like LOL!

Today for b'fast I'm trying to jump-start with Protein. Having a shot of my 25g of protein, and I have a can of low-sodium V8 and a small milk carton (2%). Deciding which to have...will probably be the milk, not in the mood for V8 breath..

Tracy---the shame! You had sex you huzzy you!!!! Yes I know huzzy is not supposed to be spelled with zzzzz's but that's how my DS used to say it, so it stuck!

I would bet you could tell us some stories----please do!!!!

Michelle- glad you are feeling better. liquids is the way to go, til your tummy feels better.

Terry---wow! I have not ever had a violent sudden reaction to food like that. My 2 PB's have been stuck, and sliming pain for a bit before finally being brought up. Poor you!

TracyK--did you get rid of the cookie? Want my address???

Jennifur---I have to ask--it made me go huh? Your Mom dropped her door? You gotta 'splain that one Lucy!

As for the food things---some of the ones you seriously miss, you might try again at a later date, restrictions change, and the fickle band itself, will agree one time, and not another. I read on another thread once about whether you named your band, that another poster named her band "Tink" short for tinkerbell, because she pictured this spiteful little fairy in there with her fist around her tummy, never knowing what she would allow through! I see that in my mind now!!! As for the watermelon, it is a slooooooow food for me in very small quantities. It hits me like drinking with my food--floats the solid part of the watermelon right into my esophagus, and makes me gag! So little bites, taken very slowly. But it tastes sooo good!!

DH's secretary called me this morning, her Aunt is wanting to have gastric bypass, and she wants me to talk to her, to convince her to have lap band instead. I don't mind talking to her, I don't like trying to change her mind---would rather just share info---if that makes any sense.

Sure do wish you could all see my granddaughter---she is dancing to beat all! Yo Gabba Gabba (some strange Nick Jr. show) is all about dancing today, and she is loving it! We were building with the blocks, and the TV was on in the background, when this come on, I lost her to it! She is such a character!

I went to bed with a killer headache, and woke with it several times through the night, and still have it. I tried liquid Tylenol---nothing. This morning I tried baby aspirin, with breakfast---nothing. I used to get hormone induced Migraines. I would have auras prior to the headache, a visual disturbance. I have not had one since my hysterectomy. But I keep getting like a shooting bright spot---nothing steady, wondering if it is something similar. When the spots go away, my vision is fine, no residuals of any kind. I checked my BP, and it was 111/68, pulse was 64---so I don't know what the heck it is, but my head is throbbing!

Not much planned for today---was going to go do some shopping, but I don't feel like it. Guess I will laze about home! So I'll check in with all of you later!!!

Kat

Kat- The past few months I've been getting migraines.. not sure what from, but Tylenol never helped. My dad gave me a lortab once, and that didn't even help.. so I went to home remedy websites looking for info, and the only thing I found that subsides it to be bearable is hot tea..

Very strong unsweetened hot tea, just slowly sip on it. Some reason it helps.

I love nun stories and nun jokes. Nuns just give me the creeps...always have always will

I spent 10 years in catholic private schools -- 'nuf said.

BTW -- It is taking me a full hour to eat 1/2 cup of cottage cheese! At this rate I'll be eating all day long to get my meals & Protein in.

New Years Eve is their BIG annual "party" night. They spend all night drinking and praying for all the sisters that have passed before them... it is an all night event........ as one sister told me... she planned to drink a little and pray a little and drink a little more. My bud that is director of housekeeping says that cleaning up after new years takes her gals ALL DAY! Don't get me wrong... there are some very GOOD sisters here... BUT there are a multitude of MEAN OLD KNUCKLECRACKERS... ones that will tell you with no hesitation that you are fat and that gluttony is a sin.

Usually, unfortunately, I can eat just about anything. I've gotten stuck 3 times since I've been banded:

1. On chicken in a Lean Cuisine - I think I ate it too fast. Usually I can eat chicken as long as I go slow and it's moist.

2. After about 2 ounces of a Ribeye steak...it was pretty tender too!

3. After 2 bites of a sandwich....the bread was pretty dense so I'm convinced it was the bread.

Otherwise I can eat just about anything...rice, bread (small amounts), torillas, moist mean (had grilled pork steaks last night). Yes I think I need another fill...I can't eat as much as I used to, but I don't think that I have proper restriction anymore. Next Tuesday hopefully that will change! :)

Just went on smoke break, my uncle was out there.. he use to be a pro-body builder.. and he's in his 40's and he got fat somewhere 10 years ago.. but he goes to gym every day, does nutrisystem, he's been trying to lose weight.

He said he's 230lbs I think.. and his ideal is probably 180ish.

He saw an article in our paper this morning about the lap-band, rny, duadonal switch, etc.. was comparing benefits.. he said they ranked lap-band the best, due to long term studies, but he said it was studies from USA and Europe.. and I don't know how long it's been in Europe, but it's only been in USA since 2001, so I told him the studies might not be the best.. but he read how it cures diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. etc.. all of which he's been facing lately and struggling with.. he has high cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes as of the past year. So anyway, I told him I read in Mexico they do it as a preventative even.. he said the article was talking about how people who aren't massively overweight benefit from lap-band blah blah. So he was all interested, said insurance is going to start paying for it.. And I told him, BCBS of AL (which is what our company has) DOES pay for it as of April 1, 2007.. BUT.. our POLICY does not. Our company isn't big enough, so.. pffff.

He asked how much I paid, I said it was 15k, so he goes 'I guess I'll just keep hitting the gym!'.. then I told him about Mexico... and before I could tell him anything, him and my brother were both saying 'I would NEVER go to Mexico for surgery blah blah', and they wouldn't listen when I was trying to explain Mexico doctors are the ones who taught OUR doctors.. in one ear, out the other. Oh well!

BUT there are a multitude of MEAN OLD KNUCKLECRACKERS... ones that will tell you with no hesitation that you are fat and that gluttony is a sin.

Ok so when I was in 1st grade, I was about 10lbs overweight, which at that time was a lot... and then I had one of them for my 1st grade teacher. I've been mental ever since.... all my memories are being teased on how fat i was... man I wish I could look like that again .LOL

Tracy - they punished my dd when she was born because I was unwed, and not practicing catholic... she was just baptised 4 years ago with my ds....I GIVE YOU all the credit in the world for putting up with them!!!!!!!

Kat - she has a bi-fold door on her room and i had to take the track down to paint it for her, so she was running after the cat and knocked the door down.... I can see this entire production in my mind. I laughed but she was not..

I went to a Christian school until I was in 5th grade.. I remember in 3rd grade (i've been overweight my whole life, and not just 10lbs!! I remember before they had trendy plus sizes, I use to wear mens clothes as a kid :) ) but.. I do remember when they talked about gluttony and I would ask my mom if I was going to hell for being fat.

Also, I took a biology class in college a couple years ago, and the teacher was anti-smoking and anti-fat people. So I had 2 knocks against me. He liked to debate this stuff too, and I'm not a shy person so I called him out a lot of times. Luckily, I stilled passed lol!

He would say smokers are fat.. smoking makes you lazy and fat.

Well, I was fat since I was an infant, so hmmmmm.

Anyway, he would blatently say, he would not befriend anyone who was a smoker or fat because he disagrees with their health choices. Sounds like a real winner huh? So I shot back, so since YOU drink alcohol at the bars, I wouldn't be your friend. Alcohol isn't a healthy choice. It was interesting, but it was weird during class when he's get off on a rant about fat people, and there's 3 of us in the class fidgeting.

This is a true story: A local woman went to Mex for her surgery. The doctor knicked her bowel during the surgery. In her post op and the days following she complained of sharp pain in the tummy. Less than a week later, she was rushed to our hospital, where my doctor had to perform emergency surgery on her. It was too late, and she died. Her bowel had leaked. She was 36 years old. This again is a true story and this just happened 2 weeks ago. Just thought I'd share.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
