Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Sorry for posting so many times!!!

I am still losing, albeit slowly - averaging about 1 1/2 pounds a week since surgery), but I have hit a snag...I have a fibroid cyst in my uterus and as a by-product have been bleeding since April 5th...needless to say, with that, recovering from surgery and being on liquids for 25 days (started mushies last week), I am anemic...I can't even do a load of laundry without pooping out for a good three or four hours. I really wanted to have these few weeks after the surgery to get into a good exercising habit, but I feel like I am stuck. I was thinking about a May personal exercise challenge, but it's a challenge just to get a shower these days (and I don't think showers count as exercise:o ). Anyone else dealing with anemia? I started Elemental Iron supplements last Friday and it seems that all I've gotten from those is nausea...

Anyway, sorry to whine - again...I'm really not a whiner...usually pretty upbeat...I just hate when things don't go the way I expect them to.

:help: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :help:

Vdander..

I feel your "nonpain"!! My surgery was the same way. Actually, I used your words exactly!! I think we need to be the cheerleaders for the newbies... but then again I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. I AM going to ask when I see the Doc just how I escaped the incision pain and the gas pains..

AND oooooooooo scarey.. we were both banded on the SAME day. Must have been the planets aligned that day!!!

I was banded on April 27. I was happy that I was in the hospital overnight as the gas pains were nasty that first day and night.

Brenners, The bum up in the air trick works but i found you have to rock from side to side. Really gets things moving in there. Also gas-x has the same active ingredient that the gas drops for babies has in it, Simethicone.

Kat, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. And yes my dear family is grand:) Your Dear MIL is I'm sure forgetting that her son is able to make his own decisions, she is angry and upset and unfortunatly you are the one that it has to be taken out on. DON'T FEEL BAD. She is after all 10 miles away.

((((hugs))))

Jenn

Sorry to hear of your trouble Ihomeschool...

For the moment I wouldn't concern my self with excercise in your condition. Give yourself the credit due that you're doin what you're doing is enough & when you feel good & ready then do you excercise.

Someday you'll wake up & know you're ready to stick you head outside the door & walk...if that is what you choose to do.

What does the doctor say about that?

Christy

that is what we are here for - support, you just like the rest of us are entitled to have a bad day and doesn't it just feel so much better to beable to vent here.

None of us are perfect, although we may have a tough exterior, but that is why we are where we are!

Stay strong... HUGS

((Christy)) -- Hang in there, friend. You are going through so much right now... healing from the band, adjusting to banded life, dealing w/"feminine" issues & perhaps the loss of any future little "home schoolers"... and yet you're always so positive and helpful to others. What a wonderful heart you have. I send you warm wishes and strength during this challenging time.

Lunasa... Your post & the others before it on "car eating" and other sneaky (who were we fooling?) eating really hit a chord for me. I see myself in these posts. Wow. It helps to know I'm not alone, but also makes me sad that we all have to go through this. We are learning and becoming stronger every day!

My good news for the day! After my first week on my pre-pre-op plan, I've lost 8 lbs! Yay! :girl_hug: I finally updated my ticker, too! Tuesdays will be my official weigh-in days... which I think will help w/the weekends, as I won't want to mess them up too badly w/Tuesday coming up quickly after them. Oh, the mind games that I play! :) Hey, whatever works! One more week on this plan & I see the surgeon next Tues... that's my sole motivation at this moment in time... follow the plan & lose as much as possible before meeting w/him!

Have a great day, everyone!

Just updated my ticker - 20lbs in 15 days, that is just so exciting! Plus it is just about that time of the month, so hopefully - i'll drop a few more in a few days just from that!

Either way, the last 20 I lost took hard work and so much time! This is work but nice to see results.

So since January 1 I have lost a total of 41lbs, that to me is just amazing and wonderful!

I never ate in the car.. I WOULD go to fast food and buy like 4 or 5 meals and ride home thinking about eating them all LOL.

Speakin of which, I have started mushies, and I like chili. They just opened a steak-n-shake by my work, so on the way home I got 3 of their chili's. Figured I'd eat one last night, and one for lunch one for dinner today.

WRONG!!!

I get home, I'm eating it (I have no restriction anymore BTW so I could definitely eat the whole thing), and I'm on Myplate at the same time, plugging in that I'm eating it.. and I go to steak-n-shake's website to get nutrition info. Almost 900 calories in this bowl I'm eating!!! I wanted to throw it up instantly. I couldn't of course, but I stopped eating. I left the chili's in the fridge for fiance, I figured he'd eat them.. but I think I'm going to have to throw them out, as they're way too much temptation for me.

How can 10oz of chili have almost 900 calories?! Most of their sandwhiches have HALF that amount. Eeesh. I'm afraid to look at Wendy's chili info now.

Laura -- That's what I did when I plugged in my favorite Pei Wei salad! :) 900-something calories!!! No wonder American are so flippin' fat!! I am so grateful to have the band now. So so grateful.

Good for you for throwing it out!! Bravo!

Hi all. I was banded on 4/14 by Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I've been doing really well these last couple of weeks but beginning to get hungry in the evening. Last night I was craving some green Beans so I ate a cup. They felt like they got stuck in my throat. I sure hope I didn't hurt something. Is anyone else getting hungry? If so, what are you eating to help besides Protein? I'm just about proteined out.

Good Morning!

Ricks heart rate dropped into the 110 range this morning....I am feeling hopeful, that the meds are doing the work they are supposed to! We see the Dr. tomorrow.

Christy--have you sat down and had a talk with your Dr. to see what options you have? I had several D&C's prior to my hysterectomy. It would eliminate some of the uterine lining, and maybe slow your bleeding. There are several intermediate measures that could be taken if you do not want the hysterectomy. Heck if it is just an ovarian cyst, you can have the entire ovary removed and still maintain fertility! I have also heard of them draining cysts. The hysterectomy will likely be the final step in the future to keep this from recurring. The cysts, even when removed, often return. But if you want more children, sit down across the desk from your Dr. and find a way. If they don't want to give you more options, or talk to you person to person, as opposed to looking at you through your knees as you are in the stirrups---it is time to find a new Dr!!! I know they don't recommend pregnancy in the first year of the band, but it has happened many a time! It would slow the ability for weight loss, but the band would still be there---waiting for you to be able to put it to work! I did several intermediate steps to my hysterectomy---not so much by choice, but for insurance reasons Dr.'s went through a stage where they avoided them at all costs (kind of like kids and tonsils). In my case a cancer diagnosis, ended the discussion. I think our family is being difficult now, you should have seen them then!!! I had a positive cancer diagnosis, and my GYN and my oncologist took a route, of putting me through 6 months of oral chemo PRIOR to surgery! Everyone wigged out! Then I had surgery, and did 6 sessions of infused therapy---and have not had any recurrance. This was done almost 5 years ago! I will say when you are ready---and comfortable with not wanting more children---it is a huge relief to finally have the surgery done! I really do love having the freedom from the problems I had been plagued with for years! I had endometriosis, and my periods, while extremely irregular, were horribly painful! At one point I was hospitalized with the pain from them, they used an internal probe --like they do to watch childbirth contractions, and the spasms I would have from cramps registered on it! I was glad to see it all GO AWAY!!! I have never had the issue of those organs making me the woman I am. I am no less of a woman now! It didn't affect my libido----I am still sexually active (ssshhhhh don't tell!). The only drawback to the surgery has been a ( I apologize in advance if this is TMI---but Christy needs info!) lack of natural lubrication. The feeling is there, the bodies natural response isn't always....but there are tons of options available, and it hasn't made a difference! I will be glad to PM you my # (any of you, for any reason!) if you want to talk about it. (((hugs)))

While I know we can't dine on 900 calorie salads every day and lose weight, it is not going to hurt you on occasion. In fact as you reach a tight restriction, if you are one of the ones with a touchy band, and have trouble getting in adequate calories, it is good to know that you can bump them up every now and then, with something that works with your band. It is said to "shock" the metabolism, by pushing the calories on occasion. I do know there were days I expected to gain, after eating cake and ice cream at a party or something, and I would get on a losing streak....I have yet to figure this body out!!!

Thanks so much for all the adivce on my in law fun. I know they love him, I know they are scared too. His sister that has been riding me so hard, is acting in fear, I have no doubt, she lost her husband to a brain tumor. I wish I had it in me right now to be their support too---I try. But my concern at that point was in projecting support for the decision my husband made concerning his own health! I called them all and updated them in the numbers dropping some. I got a chilly response, but am hoping as time goes on, and I keep them informed, as will he, that it thaws out again around here!!!

Well off to see what we can do to entertain DH----he is not a happy housebound patient!!!

Kat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
