Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

My only guess would be, the band has made it more like a funnel. The bottom of the esophogus is probably drawn in tighter toward the stoma? So, it's tighter toward the bottom and food scrapes more on it. Just my guess :)

Yikes.. couldn't get into this site for a few mintues. I was having withdrawal issues already!!!

Got word from QVC that the glider has been shipped. By this time next week I'll be striding my legs off! We have a call into the Health Center to see if we can cancel that membership. If we can, we have a Nordic Track elliptical all picked out. The money we save from the health club will pay for the elliptical in 4 months and they just happen to have a 4 months same as cash plan. What a coincidence! So our at home gym is starting to shape up!

Ethan just got picked up by his mom. He was so full of energy today! I'm pooped, but still have a church meeting to go to. Flute rehearsal is finished at least, but choir is in 2 hours. Tomorrow is my lazy day. No Ethan, the Bobster leaves for a pastor's retreat at 1 and I'm on my own!! Woooo Hoooo!! Friday we leave to head to Kalamazoo and the Clay Aiken Christmas concert. Then shopping on Saturday before we head home. Fun, fun, fun.

TTFN.....

I often describe my band to the nonbanded as a funnel... the tighter my restricting the smaller the funnel from my top stoma to my lower stomach....... Sometimes I can actually FEEL stuff go through...... painfully.. like its sqqqqqeeeeeeezing through.. at this point I usually raise my hands over my head til it passes... I have learned that if I bend to my side it pops it back out (projectile style)

I will say that my restriction is much tighter than most of you guys would like it... I can still do liquids and soft foods with no problem.... I am having crock pot chicken tonight and it will be a real test of just how restricted I am...........

I have 4.3cc in my 4cc band... and I can still guzzle non carbonated drinks. At this level of restriction carbonation gives me trouble...

I plan for this fill to be my last for at least 6 months.... so now the settling in begins..... but I want ONEderland like NOW... :)

I'm getting a fill on Dec. 5th and I'm ready to be tight again.

No more guessing about what to do, it'll let me know if I can eat or not heh heh.

Wow 4.3cc in 4cc.

When I was 'overfilled' it was at 1.5cc. The doc said when he put my band in (the smallest 9.75) that I may not even need a fill, that it was tight to start. If 1.5cc is tight tight (and it is), that made me happy in the sense that, as I lose weight, and less fat is pushing on it, they can keep filling it to keep me filled.

If I had 4.3cc in my 4cc band.. honestly I can't imagine that LOL! I wouldn't be able to get a drop of Water through.

It's funny how different we all are.

Just so ya'll know, I AM getting back into the swing of things. I'm back on myplate, and bumped my daily calories from 1,400 to 1,000.

Yesterday I had 700 calories.

Today so far I have had 640 (McDonald small OJ, sausage, egg.. Kudos Peanut bar.. yoplait key lime yogurt NUM NUM)

I can have 360 additional calories today...this is our Cracker Barrell night. I normally get some chicken dish with their Wed. veggie of the day.. broccoli casserole. I can never eat much of the food there, so I should stay within my 360, and if I go over a little since I am bowling tonight I'll burn it off.

So that's 2 days of doing better. Yay!

Yay, Laura! :)

Judy... I've said it before, but I love, love, love the elliptical! Maybe my SS got me one for xmas?? (I'm obviously still giddy & delusional from all my WDW happiness this morning! LOL!)

TracyKS... Let us know how the chick goes down this eve... I'm still hanging on 'til the 18th for a fill, but for some reason feel tighter than I have in about a month, for no apparent reason. Hmmm.

Was at the school today making copies of the PTA newsletter (just a few -- 400!), and one of the gal custodians saw me and she flipped out (guess she hasn't seen me in awhile!) about my wt loss. Her mouth was literally hanging open & she kept saying "Oh my gosh! Look at you! Oh my gosh!" & I looked kinda crappy, too, basically in sweats. Oh well... made me happy! & I got to say "-65!" for the first time out loud to someone!

Two new mantras: "249!" and "I'm going to Disney!" (I have to say that one to myself a lot because I can't say it out loud!!)

My "old" mantras: "I am healthy; I am fit; I am thinner; I have energy! Healthy! Fit! Thinner! Energtic!"

Oh, and WWJD... patience... & trust!

It must take me all day to say all those! LOL! A constant internal dialogue in my head!! Hee hee!

I know what you mean.. I read all over about people being over filled at WAY less than my band holds.....

I told my doc that this would most likely be my last fill for a long time.. ( I said "This will most likely do me for a good long while, I mean heck.. just how much of a residule fat pad can I even have left??") once again my doc looked at me with a suprised deer in the headlight look like he was amazed that I knew that much about my band......... (he did the same thing when I mentioned omnipaque in August)

He is always suprised when I ask him how much he puts in... I guess I'm just weird...

No way, I always ask how much is in, how much bounced back, blah blah. If we know anything about our band, I think it's normally to ask. Gives us a visual of what's going on in there!

My doc doesn't seem real happy about me asking just because it seems as though they take bad notes. I had 3 different people at his office filling me during the times they couldn't get it to go in (but thought they were). At one point, he said "You have 3.5cc in there" and just from the calculations of what everyone was telling me they put, I should have had 2cc. But before I could correct him, I went under for the port revision. I don't know what his charts say now, but I know I was 1.5cc during port revision, he took .5cc out, and Dec. 5th I am asking for the .5cc back in!

Laura, So glad to hear that things are getting back on track for you. Just hang in there. It will get better.

TracyinKS, I go next week to see Dr. Malley. I just adore him. I'm not sure he knows how to handle my sense of humor. When I told him my band and margarita story he just stood there and shook his head. Didn't know what to say to me. But I did get him to laugh about it. I used to ask him about how much he is in my band but he just seems like he doesn't really want to tell me. I'm just gonna trust him.

You guys are not going to believe this. You know I told you about getting the job at curves? Well I had been home for about an hour when the phone rang and it was company that I had worked for a few years back wanting to know if I would come back to work. Yikes. 2 jobs in one day. I stewed about it for awhile and decided to stay with curves. It's just a part time job and that would still give me the flexiblity to do what I want. Like going out to lunch with my friends and going to the movies and all the other stuff I do. I wasn't really wanting to go back to full time work. What a day for me.

Everyone have a great evening.

Hey Violets~

Suzie, congrats on the jobs!!!

Tracyk~ woohoo!I am so proud of you and everyone else doing well.

I wanted to clarify that I never meant to imply that my parents were (are) to blame. NO it is all me. I am the one working on the why behind my food issues. My feelings of being inadequate, low self esteem...these are mine and mine alone.

I am soooo pissed. I stopped my period last Tue and guess what...yep...spotting again. So freakin tired of it too.

Have a great night!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
